There is no such thing as a provisional Rec or a provisional Tech outcome. You can either fail, get a provisional or pass. The latter with either a Rec or Tech rating.

If you get a provisional you have 6 months to try to pass. Should you pass with a Rec rating you can try to upgrade to Tech anytime you feel ready for it.

Ah ok. I had a misunderstanding then. I thought Rec pass is a fundies course with singles tank and tech pass required doubles compulsorily.

It is true that for a Tech pass the equipment requirements are different (doubles etc.) but it is possible to get a Rec pass when you take Fundies in the "Tech configuration".

Yeah but I only want the training not the cert. I also intend to buy the doubles wing to use with the same BP before starting on the TDI cert path journey. Not really considering discarding this just to conform to GUE rules.

That said a minor correction to your post - the 4th D-Ring is the one in the front of the crotch strap. I just need to find out if GUE will accept 5&6 D-Ring a little off centre as you see in the pic.
The 3rd D-Ring for SPG is exactly where it should be on the left side but attached to an accessory bolt-on weight pocket on the waist belt.

You want the training, but you don’t want to follow any of the fundamentals that are in line with the DIR/GUE concepts? You recognize how ironic that is, considering the “E” in GUE’s acronym “GUEEDGE” standards for “equipment match”?

Got it. My comment about provisional was with an understanding that one could pass the course but with a provisional clause because equipment used was not 100% complaint with recommended standards. For a moment I assumed that some requirements are mandated (for example longhose primary) while other minor requirements may only be recommendations (ex central 5th rear D-ring on crotch strap) that an instructor is willing to allow for the course.

This is true, and the only way you can stop "assuming" what is mandated by GUE standards and what is discretionary relative to your proposed equipment is to ask your prospective GUE instructor about this.

Right so I am unwilling to let go of my eur 750 investment because a D-ring at the rear is a few inches off-centre. But I still intend to gain and learn from the rest of the training. That doesn’t mean dumping all the fundamentals and concepts, just being flexible with some minor variations.

I am waiting for a reply from an instructor. Enuff said for now.

Nailed it, wait for the instructor to give you a definitive answer on what they'll allow in your Fundies course. Just be aware that even if they allow you to take Fundies with that setup it definately won't work for Tech1 or Cave1. Just something to consider if you plan to continue down the GUE path. Hope you have a great class.

Update - The instructor says yes good for class - the pros and cons will be discussed in class.
I hope to schedule a class in the 3rd quarter of the year giving me a few months to practice 300mtr surface swims…

What about attaching a single center strap with a grommet?

I don't think you have to. I think that @sourdough's solution will work.

By the way, you could always resell your system and buy a second hand BP/w, you will probably make money out of this operation. Halcyon isn't mandatory at all, and I would recommend only the wing (definitely not the backplate and the webbings)
