I beg to disagree that you should want to do the same.

If you are on single cylinder, unless it’s closed shut or leaking extremely fast, just breathe from it and ascend. That’s a lot less risky than doing a cesa.

You either presented the fact that said individual is a GUE instructor as relevant for the CESA discussion or it was off topic.

As I assumed that you were not going off topic, I was just pointing out that it was odd that a GUE instructor required a CESA or that he was not following the procedures of the agency.

On a different note, "completely in control" and doing a CESA are not quite compatible.

I understood that. My point was that a discussion about pony bottles is different when you consider the only plausible alternative to be a CESA.

I mentioned a pony because if he’s really concerned of running out of air at depth and to do a CESA, it makes sense to have redundancy.

Whether he will need it or not, at least that will give him one thing less to worry.

I was actually not advocating any specific redundancy (buddy, pony, doubles, etc). Just saying that a pony (or anything) is better than a CESA and that the people against it on a different thread were probably not mentioning a CESA as an alternative.
