I've been using this particular console for over 25 years or something
started with a Suunto companion in it across my chest just look down

It also acts as my "crackometer" whereby if I'm squeezing through tight places
on the way in if I fit I fit but on the way out through the same crack if I don't fit
I unclip

It's grown a bit with a dive plan here and a perdix there but with a little computer still inside

Servicing is hectic!

Why do I need more?
I find that AI provides feedback as to comfort and or exertion level -- I like it during a dive because I can adjust my depth (typically slightly deeper) while not impacting the group planned duration. If SAC is high, but exertion low, that's an easy (and early) indicator of stress.

I also like it post dive, as it also informs gas planning for future dives. Some of this can be done without AI, but it's just easier and at finer granularity with it.

It's a nice-to-have, not a must-have for me.

Agreed completely. One thing to add post dive is that the AI computer provides real time usage at each point of the dive. My air consumption is typically highest at the beginning of the dive. That makes sense as I’m usually adding a bit of air to establish buoyancy. Plus, I’m probably excited for the dive so usually breathing a bit harder at that point. A consumption spike without an apparent reason could indicate an Issue that warrants further investigation.

AI is definitely a nice to have, not required, but it is really nice. I’s an additional tool available that can improve the safety or enjoyment of the dive. I really like having everything I need right there on my wrist. It does cost more for the equipment, but if the cost isn’t a hindrance, why not?

I just want a mechanical spg, brass and glass, thank you. I look at it before I go in and maybe a couple of times during the dive. Why do I need more?

Depends on how you’re diving. For SM, AI is damned handy. Info on wrists. Much easier glancing on your wrist to see when you have to switch regs than having to go for SPGs.

I could see that on my IDs. So, you are running AI in a technical environment?
