Good morning.

Well, I have finally ended up with a double hose reg. I should be receiving it next week. Curious if I can get verification on which model and approximate year of this reg.

The pictures are the pictures from the listing. So far, it appears to be an R-2 without the Dial-A-Breath feature. If the literature I found is right, that would make the manufacturing date between 1956-59.

I would also love any additional info that I can get. I will be trying to source rebuild kits as I go along.

I am very new to double hose regs and, admittedly, piss ignorant about many aspects of them.

Thanks in advance!

You can find some Dacor info in the "Manuals and Catalogs" section in the Vintage Double Hose website. Most of the differences between the R models are inside the cans so you have to take them apart to figure out which you have.
Unfortunately, repair parts are very hard to come by. You will at a minimum need both main diaphragms, the HP diaphragm, a lp seat and an exhaust mushroom valve. People are always looking for them so when usable ones come up, they go quickly. In the hose loop, odds are it is not really servicable but at a mimimum, you will need the mouthpiece valves, I don't know if USD ones will fit. Since the hoses and mouthpiece are likely not really up to diving, if you get the req rebuilt, I would suggest using a reproduction USD hose loop. It will work fine and you can get all those parts (reproductions).

Thank you, sir! I have been reading some threads on another forum (and this one) regarding parts and making/modifying parts, so I do have a few ideas. And yes, if the hoses are shot, I was thinking about just going with USD hoses/mouthpiece. Nice to hear from another source that they will work.

Thanks again!

I have an double diaphragm “dial a breath”. On mine the main diaphragm’s were fine (quality looks as good as the USD diaphragm’s.
The HP seat can be lapped if need be. Second stage seat easy to fabricate. On mine the first stage diaphragm was hard, I located a NOS replacement slightly more pliable but it made no difference in performance. As others have stated the hose loop is probably junk, USD hose loop fits fine.
The Dacor will build up your chest muscles (not an easy breather).

I have heard or read for years about the U/S diaphragms and poor breathability, mine were perfect breathes ok
The intact hoses are short and stiff and no stretch and I've moved a bit away from purist for diveability and comfort and use a hodgepodge of silicone hoses with a VDH DSV so I can choose my mouthpiece and much better for mask sealing
it also came with Tinnermans so that was good

The R-2 breaths a bit better than the competition at the time, the DA Aqualung regulator (I have both, and have compared them subjectively). I think this is because of the asymmetric outlet, which is at 3:00 to the intake horn, if my memory is correct.

The U.S. Divers Company HP diaphragm probably cannot be used unless modified. This is because the it has screw holes through it, as the body and the can are held together with screws. I think it may be possible to drill holes into the HP diaphragm, but am not completely sure.
