Not convinced this is a mass market product. Obv Shearwater diehards and those wanting buhlman with like it and I'm sure SW did their market research

From a dive centre POV - it's sitting in a display case next to a D5 or AL computer that have compass and AI - so to the average rec diver, it might not be an enticing buy

Time will tell - perhaps this is part of a medium term SW strategy, where they move the Perdix upmarket perhaps with a redesign, and then add AI and compass to the Peregrine

Do you mean D4i rather than D5? D4i runs ~500USD and has AI but does not come with nice color screen. D5 is rec oriented computer that runs at ~879USD and has AI. Buyer would have to decide whether AI or color screen was more important. I think current trends are the color screen is more of a draw but I could be wrong.

I can see this as a good computer for the mid-range. I have had more than one student that really liked my Teric or Perdix but did not want the price tag that came along with them.
I can also see this as a win personally for Saniflush 2.0 and 2.1 when they take up diving.

The US has some weird pricing for Suunto probably down to Huish and their nonsense.

Outside of the US, the prices are much different so D5/Eon Core is much closer to Peregrine.

D5 is just as capable as Peregrine- same software as Eon, which I currently run side by side with my Perdix and have no difference in NDL nor Deco times at equivalent settings.

Don't get me wrong, my shop sells SW (as well as Suunto). so I'm not against either and I use both

The reality that I see predominantly is that when divers are stepping up, AI is seen as an important feature, and there are a few alternatives to tempt buyers around that price point.

Equally people have different desires and what they see as prime importance. My friend is a dive Pro, and her goto is a D6i (OSTC Plus for her infrequent tech)

Her primary requirements are a daily wear that doesn't need recharging - she has a battery change at each service on her 6 monthly breaks

My point is, I'm not knocking the Peregrine - I just don't see it as a killer product - most people don't care about Buhlmann anyway so I think it's a bit niche. But hey it might fly off the shelves and I could be totally wrong as its just my opinion

Yeah, it's not just pricing, but in my experience customer service from Huish is not great. So I'm looking at a Peregrine instead of an Eon Core, even though the Eon Core was on sale with basically a free transmitter a little while back.

Yeah I totally get that. In my area Suunto support is great. My Eon Steel is one of the first, I had an errant depth sensor early on which Suunto changed at no charge even though out of warranty. My wife, and a number of friends also have Eon's and none had problems

I make no secret of the fact that I prefer teh Eon to teh Perdix. I've got 1000 dives on teh Eon and somewhere near 500 on the Perdix. Non are bad computers, but when I add up the strengths and weaknesses between teh two combined with my preferences the Eon comes out on top. Indeed it took me ages to actually warm to the Perdix, and I felt the user interface was disappointing. But that's just my opinion

They both get dived hard, they both run pretty much identical times aon their equivalent P-2 and 45/95 settings, and it one was broken I'd happily dive the other.

I'd personally buy another Eon, but not another Perdix - again not hating on SW as its a fine computer I just find it a bit meh!

A nice advanced basic computer but the Teric has everything I want, probably why I have two.
AI and compass are a must for me, I can check my heading, pressure, GTR, depth, sac, NDL and dive time with a glance, most of these things can be accomplished with separate clipped or strapped on devices but it’s not the 70’s anymore. For sane people, aware of where I am, computers are something bought and used for years barring a major issue.

I don't see the peregrine on DGX's website...I wonder if that's their punishment for blowing the street date...don't get to sell it for however long...

I know, you still need to double check

I'm sure we've all plugged our phone in overnight, only to wake up in the morning to find for whatever reason it didn't charge. Easy to overcome with a phone - not so great with a PDC

I keep a battery that has a wireless charger inside a waterproof pouch. I use it both for my phone and for my Terics if needed.

Tariffs, since most scuba gear comes from Europe it has tariffs on it. It is the same reason why Shearwaters are more expensive in Europe.

In all seriousness I doubt that SRI would smack them like that. It was most likely an honest mistake. From SRI's perspective, a sale is a sale is a sale. Pre-posting then pulling the details didn't hurt SRI in any way that I can fathom. Either they are waiting to have them in stock or they will be adding it today or over the weekend.

you say that, but street dates are serious business...at least in retail...I used to work as a vendor, and I had heard of stores loosing their license to sell certain stuff over street date violations...
