No AI is kinda fail. I can understand it would cannibalize perdix sales, but you can find ai on much Cheaper computers.

Not in the US or Canadian market, and certainly not when paired with a color screen computer.

No AI and no compass.

So, compared to the Deep6 Gear computer, you pay an extra $175 and you get a color screen, built-in rechargeable (non-user replaceable) battery, and Shearwater service/support. Am I missing anything?

I feel like the battery comparison is a wash. Personal preference.

Shearwater service/support is well-known to be top notch. Deep6 Gear does not have as long of a track record with computers, but I'm inclined towards believing they would also take good care of their customers.

So, (to me), it's down to whether it's worth $175 for a bigger, color screen.

I won't be buying either one as I have plenty of computers and would only buy a new one that supports trimix and has AI. But, when friends or students ask, I think I would have to point them both out and let them decide for themselves. Personally, for recreational-only diving, I would really struggle to spend that extra money just for that screen. I dived my Oceanic Atom (same type of screen as the Deep6 computer) from the start of my diving until I bought a tech-capable computer (and continued to use it as a backup) and I thought the display was just fine for that kind of diving.

Planning mode and an actually usable tech mode.

You're saying the Peregrine has a usable tech mode and the Deep6 computer does not?

I see what you mean. If you're tech diving on OC with no helium, you could use the Peregrine. Fair enough.

Yes, the Peregrine would work fine for an AN/DP level diver.

Right. That's why I was agreeing with you.

However, anyone that asked me for suggestions on computers to look at, that had any inkling of going tech, is not someone I would suggest to look at the Peregrine. Just the same as anyone that asked me about doing AN/DP is someone I would suggest to find an instructor that can include Helitrox in that same course. It does not add any dives to the course. It just gives the person an extra tool that they can choose to use when they think it's appropriate (which would be most people doing dives deeper than 130' - just in my opinion).

Designed, made, sold and supported by a premium company with a 15 year track record of doing exactly that vs designed and made by some random bunch of people and then sold and supported by a two man band. Tricky choice.

I think it is great. I almost bought one earlier and I really don’t need another computer. £360 plus VAT. I like the single gas nitrox mode too. Custom GF, all the wild GF displays, etc. All at a vaguely sensible price.

Only two buttons though still... Can’t have everything I guess.
