Does Test purging really mean it wil breathe fine if needed? I look at the primary reason for the octo as a backup 2nd stage for myself and always test breath before I splash - a backup for an OOA diver is secondary. So does purging it really tell me it's good to go?

Personally, I'm not 100% sure that it does...PADI seems to think it's close enough to recommend for now. I will continue to test breathe my Octo before every dive, but I also sleep with my dive buddy, I don't think she'll mind... LOL.

You know, I wouldn't mind sanitizing it AFTER I tested it. A quick purge doesn't reveal a torn or dislodged diaphragm.

I think I will go out on a limb here and suggest that a single test inhalation, even two, without exhaling into regulator will not deposit a significant viral load and I further postulate that that small contaminate will be removed by going diving.

Look at the SPG when you do it; the needle should not waver.
Breathing is better (you get cracking pressure that way), but also look at the SPG.

I don't use an SPG anymore - that's so 80's

But also much safer than using just an electronics transmitter...

I just bring sanitizing wipes with me diving now. If someone is OOG, I'll signal them to wait, switch to my short hose, get out my sanitizing wipes and disinfect my primary, then donate.

Aren't those sanitising wipes going to quite difficult to fish out with thick gloves on? Oh, hang on... what about a quick release / breakaway wipe dispenser?
