I don't get it.. This thread is about PLBs can save your life, yet the past couple pages are about purchasing a PLB from what has all appearances of being a scam. Do you really think that you will get a good deal? How do you know it's not some cheap knockoff (China is infamous for that) and will it work the way it's supposed to? You're willing to bet your life on this??
Ok, I get that some like saving a buck or few, but is this really where you want to pinch pennies? PLB aint exactly expensive to begin with, about $250, and ACR is always running specials..

After the first hundred pages, no one new is going to read all of this thread. New readers will get the idea from the first pages while old readers and contributors are going to see this as the PLB message board page.

I knew it was too good to be true when I found it, but then someone posted that they ordered, so the buying frenzy took life. No risks as we can all dispute the charges.

So do you have one? The cheapest on the new ACR models is $300, and I have not found a special since it came out other than some free add-ons that no one wants. Not many will see that as a cheap expenditure. Worth it to me, especially now that we can get the nylon canisters for less than another $300, but that's me. I got my first one for $200 net years ago, had it battery serviced after six years total for around $100, so now I have $300 plus canister in for 11-12 years of total use if I keep breathing and traveling long enough. I do think every diver who goes to sea, every car west of the Mississippi, and every hiker should carry one, but that's not going to happen.

UPDATE:
China Post says one of my two orders is with USPS in New York, the other has been shipped.
We'll see.
How do I tell if they are counterfeit and non-usable if either should be delivered?
There are reprogramming services listed on eBay if needed.

Update:
USPS says delivery expected tomorrow! This is the "with display" unit.
The simpler/cheaper unit is about 2 weeks behind, but claims to have been shipped.
I'll do an "unboxing report" when the unit arrives....

I guess you know that you can do a GPS test after you register?

I ordered a couple of smoke alarms on Ebay, First Alert with product number. I got knockoffs that were not even close, and refunds.

Update:
I received a package today with the correct tracking number, as given to me for my order. It contained two cloth face masks.
I lodged a request for a full refund with PayPal for both units I ordered.

Sigh. The least they could have done was knockoff N-95 masks.

Totally sucks. While $300 isn’t a huge amount of money, people will be cheap, and a lot of them won’t spend that kind of money on something they don’t think they need. Sales and deals like this, if true, might convince people to get one.

Double sigh.

Well, it was too good to be true when I posted the find. Someone then posted that they ordered and some of us got caught up in the frenzy.

Cloth masks. How funny. All I got was ignored.

This looks like a ligament offer of a Ocean Signal PLB1 for $217.49 with free shipping and valid warranty. It's not as fancy as the new models, but will still work. Ocean Signal 730S-01261 Rescueme Plb1 Personal Locator Beacon 7-Year Battery 5060266110344 | eBay
ACR owns the production now so it's backed by the free replacement if used in a rescue offer.

Just initiated a dispute with PayPal. Bummer, but it was too good to be true

Another update:
Through the Paypal Resolution Center the scumbag offered me $54 to resolve the dispute, but my purchase was $64 (numbers rounded).
I rejected his offer; we'll see what happens next.
