Local lake. Reconfigured some gear and wanted to dial in some weighting. Dropped a bunch of lead. Total depth, 10 feet. About 5 trips in and out of the water, geared up 3 times. I was packing up and leaving as the crowds were coming in.

Greilickville harbor park, Traverse city, MI. Max depth of 41’, with the average water temp in the 40’s. The visibility appeared to be ~40ft off the bow of the submerged tug boat. I only had a few hours to kill and it was my first time in the state. Very basic dive site next to a sheltered mooring harbor, easy compass navigation. I recommend a drysuit, although I passed under a few morning swimmers in full wetsuit.

Ah this weekend was great, finally Dorian left and we were able to go back to our routine of diving Saturday and Sunday.
This was my favorite area just south of the inlet in 40- 60 -50 feet. Temperature is down to 84 F, hope stays that way for a couple more months.

Seas were on the rough side for our boat on Saturday but not so much to call it off. Just a pain while guarding my husband's flag, but so very worth it when it was my turn in the water. I guess the stress of the hurricane was greater than I recognized, because once I got in the water I felt such a relief, like a weight was lifted of my shoulders.
Visibility was on the crappy side on the water column, I didn't see the bottom until I was 4-5 feet of it. Once I started going north with the very soft current either my eyes adapted very well or the visibility improved some.
Great dive but didn't see anything special until 30-35 minutes in, that I encounter a gorgeous black grouper, undersized but lately is not normal to see any. Now when I say nothing special I mean no sharks, or turtles or squid, or anything besides a very healthy complex little reef that I'm pretty much used to.

Then around 55 minutes in the dive I figure my husband has been punished plenty on the boat so decided to go up, that's when it turned into a very unique dive, at the safety stop I suddenly got surrounded by a cast of little crab, body size about 1 maybe 1.5 inches diameter, and serious attitude, it was hilarious they were all attacking me with the pinchers out ready to eat my fingers. The cherry on top was a baby triggerfish, no bigger than 2-3 inches. He decided to hang around me, and even came with me once I surfaced to the point I was concerned he'd latch into my gear and get on board.

Sunday we had some friends join us, it was ok but no one came to attack my fingers during the safety stop. My husband did see the baby triggerfish on Sunday.

Looking forward to the next weekend, hopefully the seas will cooperate.

I actually didn't plan on any solo dives today originally. We ended up with 3 of us heading down to go look for some lost gear someone else dropped this morning, but one of the divers in our group had an issue on the way down. Since we were going deep, I took my pony bottle (a habit I generally do on my solo dives, deep dives, any planned deco obligation, and anytime I go with a diver I haven't dived with before). So, when one diver had an issue I sent my usual buddy to go up with them and went down to look for the gear by myself. Spoiler alert - I found it. I'm getting pretty good at finding lost gear at the local dive spot, and this was the first time I found lost gear on the first dive looking for it. Pretty happy about that.

Probably 95% of my dives since 1962 have been solo. Most recently Casino Point dive park (of course)

2 days ago at Indian Cove, St. Margarets Bay near Halifax. 15' only. Didn't want to venture out too far in 40F water diving wet. But, it is summer here in my mind-- meaning driving to 2 dives a day once weekly (instead of 1 a day every 2 weeks).

At the moment am considering my neighbours pond.

Have you tried the neighbors pond yet?!

Here in the Solomons we are in lockdown so have no guests coming to stay with us. I’m diving on my own every day on the reef in front of our accomodation. Gear up and jump off the little concrete jetty in this photo.
