Would you guys recommend a Hydros to anyone?
I really wanted a Hydros but I am changing my mind very quickly.

I would have recommended a Hydros to anyone had I not seen everyone else's problems with them. I haven't had any issues with mine yet. Now based on what others have dealt with, I expect something to go wrong every time I lay hands on it. All that aside, I was pretty quick and excited to buy my gear after my OW cert. After further research and joining this board, there are other less expensive alternatives that are better value with far better track records for quality.

So far so good from my perspective. Light, easy to accessorise, easy to travel with, easy to load weights, easy to put on. Only ±20 dives but likely to stick with it for the foreseeable future. So far no sign of any issue, and I'm not necessarily gentle with it.

Hi there,

I have about 6 dives on my Scubapro Hydros Pro BCD. When washing it yesterday I noticed that one of the Monoprene attachment holes had ripped through. It is the attachment hole on the monoprene plate attached to the waistband. The screw that goes into this hole attaches the weight pockets to the waistband.

I have attached 2 photos.

Can monoprene be repaired with some kind of glue? Does the warranty cover this? Anyone else experience anything like this?

T-T...

I wouldn't consider a repair...get it back to your dealer ASAP...

There was a recent post critiquing the Hydros a few weeks ago...and tearing through the monoprene was my primary concern when responding...

Monoprene for fins...one thing...anything else where tearing stress is involved...not so much...

Sorry to hear of your difficulties...I had expected this...

This is an old thread that Flying GS posted to. TT's failure was almost 2 years ago.

Fair enough...

Doesn't negate a chronic ''likely to happen'' problem on an overly expensive piece of equipment...and rhwestfall is certainly correct when he say's there's far better...for far less $$$...even the least expensive modular system...with optional integrated pockets is a far better option...

This is definitely something monoprene should ''not'' be used for...

Best...

For what it's worth, I see a difference in molding design on the hinge of the shoulder strap on my model (reinforced). It's likely some early issues have been addressed and although I agree that Scubapro should have stressed tested this better before shipping, it's a shame people would now be missing out on what is a really good BCD because of that.

The issue for me is other than bringing in photos of “new” versus “old”, how is one to know that the BC one is getting is the improved one versus the original issue one, especially since this is a running change without a change in name? A shop might not know themselves or have an enthusiastic salesperson who wants to sell older stock. It’s not like the manufacturer pulled back the originals.

HydrosPro is not perfect but I still like it, and I bought 4 more knowing the issues.

1) Straps were all replaced under warranty, fairly simple.

2) Air being trapped on one side is due to too much air in bladder, make sure you're weighted properly, and if it happens just pull down on the bladder from both sides and it's fixed in a second. Yes, SP could have made it better.

3) Other parts of neoprene breaking is something I'm worried about but I do expect SP will take care of it if/when it happens.
