Is there any reason a pair of these couldn't be mounted on the outside of the mask? It sounds like the adhesive is pretty resilient, and doing so would eliminate any potential issues with defog not working properly and make periodic cleaning of the inside glass a little easier.

When looking through them, what is the focus distance from the mask? Are you using the +2, or the +3?

Thanks

Can't mount to the outside. It wouldn't work optically.

Defog works fine. Cleaning the mask isn't hard, but you're right getting right up the edge of the lens is not quite as easy. It isn't a big deal.

Can't give you a measurement on focus distance, but if it helps, I use 1.75 cheaters normally, like at work.

I have both the +2 and +3 versions for my mask. Either works okay, but since I tend to be looking at my camera or computer from pretty close range (closer than a book or computer monitor on land), I prefer the larger magnification.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

When looking through them, are you using both eyes at once? Or do you have them on both sides of your mask so you can choose which side you want to focus on while only using the eye on that side?

Most people will only need/want one of them, mounted on whichever side they wear their computer/SPG. I put them on both sides because use my other eye for camera and second computer.

You mount them low and don't look through them at all except when reading a computer/camera or, maybe, looking at some macro subject on the reef from a foot away.

Gotcha, so it doesn't sound like you could hold an object directly in front of your face and use both eyes at once to look through the lenses a la reading glasses that give you binocular (two-eye depth) vision. Thanks again!

I am really getting bad, and use the semi circular glass corrective glue ons in the same configuration as jgttrey. I need them not only for gauges, but for a clear view of any small object or animal. Makes for some interesting convolutions to get a good look at stuff.

I've bough a cheap pair of stick-on correction lenses on Amazon
And now both have been lost. Long-time storage with no use wasn't a very good idea; when I started using the mask again a couple times the correction lenses detached and disappeared. I guess I'll be switching the left glass in my correction mask with one fit for close focus. More or less the same as when I'm using monovision contacts.

Are you talking about the diveoptx ones? They say they use no adhesive. How does that work?

They are slightly convex so they stick on by suction I suppose. My only complaint with those things is that if your mask ends up in the slop-bucket on a boat for any length of time, they'll come loose. They won't fall out of the mask, but they will move around and it takes at least overnight to re-seat them properly. I had them for years, but finally bit the bullet and had lenses bonded in by one of those on-line optical places. These work great but if your prescription isn't stable, it could get expensive. I don't know if they can be removed and updated once they're in.

I did hear of someone who used a tiny spot of silicone adhesive on the corner just to hold them in place. I can't see why this wouldn't work.

The glass glue ons can be removed/ relocated with the aid of a single edge razor blade. Otherwise, they're not going anywhere. I use standard optical UV cured cement, but some use clear silicone.
