So, I had resisted getting progressive glasses for awhile. Now I really need the reader part of my glasses to see small print.

What do you all recommend as an insert into a mask to help read DC or gauges? I have seen things you can glue onto the mask lens. Or do I get prescription lenses?

Thoughts?:watching:

I only needed cheaters so I got the stick on lenses for my mask. Mine don't glue in, they just stick on if you follow directions. I switched them to my new mask, taking them off the old mask, and they have been fine for years now.

I saw those Bob, forget the name though. Do they work OK?

Make sure you follow directions exactly, and let the mask dry as long as you can. If the water between the lens and mask does not dry completely the lens will move or fall off when the inside of the mask gets wet.

I put the lenses out of my normal view so I have to look down so I can read my computer or whatever, and it dosent affect my usual vision underwater.

Had prescription lenses added by an optometrist a few years ago. The small glue in lenses so I could read gauges clearly. Worked good for a couple years. Then as me eyes continued to change they didn’t really work correctly anymore. Found myself needing to look twice to feel like iI knew what they read. Went in December for Lasic Surgery. Now have 20/20 right eye and 20/15 in the left eye. Can see distance (anything more that 3 feet away) like a teenager again. Going to PV next week. Excited to see what difference it will make. I am expecting it to be a huge difference.

I'm going through this now too. Just need a little help to more easily read my computer on my wrist. I've been avoiding adding stick ins because I've heard all of the bad stories. I'd like to hear what brands work the best. I need something that I can put out of my normal field of vision into the lower part of my lens

And once they are "dry" can you add defog or similar to the mask like usual?

The cheap ones from Amazon work fine and as Bob said, follow the instructions, make sure the glass is clean and let it dry. The plastic ones hold up better than the glass to actual use as far as staying in place.

Are you talking about the diveoptx ones? They say they use no adhesive. How does that work?

I’ve seen many names on them, the last ones I got through amazon and didn’t reference “diving” just “stick on lens” they are a vinyl sort of material, flexible and have a concave side. Clean the mask lens (the lighter method works great here) so it’s squeaky clean, I use dish soap after the lighter, leave it wet from rinsing and stick the lens where you want it, push it against the mask lens and while it’s being held use a paper towel to dab away the excess water. Leave it as flat as possible so the corrective lens doesn’t float away from the spot that you want it until it drys. I use the liquid type of defogger and drip or spray it into the mask and just make sure its on all surfaces, I don’t rinse until I’m about to drop down, and then it’s just a dip, drain and put the mask on.

I have had one come loose on a Thailand trip where the crew made sure everyone had some defog in their mask, usually when no one was around, if this happens take your mask to the cabin and rinse, reset and let dry over night.
