I received an email from the US state government travel warnings, an undetonated explosive was found on one of the ferries today, March 1, 2018. No other details

They really need to get a handle on this ASAP. I REALLY don’t want to have to cancel my Cozumel vacation plans!

Here's the US State Department website. I don't see anything about ferry usage.

Mexico Travel Advisory

"There are no restrictions on U.S. government employees for travel in Quintana Roo state, which includes tourist areas such as: Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya."

This warning came from the US embassy in Mexico as a security alert, not a travel advisory. I received the email because of enrollment in the Smart traveler enrollment program (step). I don’t know anything else besides this email.

All I know is that the State Department website is not limiting government employee travel in the region.

The explosive was found in the water near one of the Barco caribe boats anchored in front of the port captains property. It was not on an occupied ferry.

They find explosives in another ship of Borge

REFORM / Drafting
Mexico City, Mexico (01 March 2018) .- Navy personnel found and deactivated this afternoon two explosives on the Caribbean ship 2 of the shipping company owned by the father of former Governor of Quintana Roo Roberto Borge.

We sat outside on the upper deck in the rear, near the "life preserver" ring bouy. Just in case.
