If the divers on either side of me were not back on the boat, I would be acutely aware of that. The boats I use take a roll call at the end of the dive and this could not happen,.

That's just great! Sharks, 50+ summer temperatures, and now no head count on dive boats. Makes me wonder if I really want to go back after my Murkian employers kick me out to pasture.

There's always two headcounts and roll calls on the boat. You're also asked to report pressures, max depth and run time before signing the manifest. If that doesn't happen it ain't on the divers, your boss is going to hear all about it, and I'm never stepping on your ****** boat again.

Sharks are awesome.

It is required on every dive charter here , for years now you sign [put your mark] on the dive sheet, time in, bar [psi] before you splash it is written down by a crew member, be they DM, skipper or a staff member given the job, on exit, time out, total dive time, depth, and bar [psi] left.
Everyone signs.
You will not exit the boat until you sign , it is checked and double checked, well it is here.

One thing we do right in the nanny state of Queensland.

Yep, that's pretty much the standards and guidelines in Western Australia, for recreational diving charters.

The brothers won't be going back there (PDA), that's for sure! 😅💯

Hope he recovers from his injuries and gets back to diving. Who knows I might see them on another dive charter in Perth someday.

So for all our American readers who wondered why other divers never paid attention: why would they? Everybody knows that the op will do two roll calls and record the depth and the time and tank pressure and have the diver sign off on that.

As they should, and required to do.

You can pay as much attention as you like, but anything short of performing the head count and roll call yourself cannot satisfy you that everyone is on the boat.

At this point you're just blame-shifting and carrying on like a bit of a berk; thankfully AMSA won't do that.
