With medical costs, the sky's the limit, so I do not skimp there. In fact, I overkill there.

Trip insurance...it depends...for a cheap trip to Coz, where I'm going to be out $5k at the most, I don't bother. If it's a 10K liveaboard trip (my husband and myself), I might. If it's a 20k liveaboard trip to Raja Ampat, I will.

Whew! I can assure you, a liveaboard trip to Raja Ampat won't have to cost you $20K or even $10K if you don't want it to.

Hehehe, yeah but we're (2 of us) going end of 2019 on Dewi Nusantara and it's going to cost USD15k, plus the airfare, hotel (1 or 2 nights), so should be approx. $20k give or take. And I will be buying trip insurance for that trip!/

FYI, I was also thinking in CAD.

Like OOO, I buy full blown trip coverage once a year from Insurance Services of America when I take my annual off the beaten track motorcycle excursions....seems to me to be prudent for the costs, but interestingly enough, since I live in NY, I can not purchase through there web portal...I always have to call. But I don't mind, there friendly folks.

An interesting DAN policy exclusion - As a dive professional that might work within the 50 miles of their permanent residence, DAN travel assistance may not be helpful.

Do you have dive accident insurance? As stated before in my post, that only applies to TravelAssist which is the basic benefit of DAN membership. If you have DAN Dive Accident, that does not have any minimum or maximum restrictions for distance.

I have DAN Accident insurance.I was not sure about the interpretation of the 50 mile limit. In any case, it’s unfortunate that Basic DAN membership benefit has a travel restriction.

The fact that they even provide DAN TravelAssist as a benefit is a perk to me already. I think the membership fee for Dive Alert and some of the other things we can access are worth just that alone. 50 miles is actually still pretty close to home in the realm of "travel", so I think most people will still be able to utilize the benefit if they really needed to.

A bit of thread drift here. DAN provides classes on O2 delivery. I highly recommend their continuing education efforts.
