Last year, there was a lot of stressing over whether or not to open the Solo forum. Here

I am on record for initially *and vigorously* opposing opening this forum, but have come to change my mind over the past year while watching the non-impact that it had on newbies. It is just another way of diving and solo attitudes may give the new diver new insights or food for thought.

So the Solo forum was opened, easily seen by external search tools and the internet at large. I was recently following a dustup between two cool people in that forum.

I can't see Solo anymore from the outside. What changed?

I just posted there lowviz. What do you mean by the outside?

I'm pretty sure nothing has changed on our end recently.

The thread you referenced discusses opening the forum to viewing by the entire Scubaboard membership, not the entire Internet.

When I'm in a hurry or doing something else, I'll just go to ScubaBoard without logging in and hit "Recent Posts". That is the view from the outside. -what anyone on the internet can see.

Maybe because one needs to be a "member" of the solo forum and without logging in the SB operating system doesn't know if you are or not so doesn't show the site? Just guessing.

What confounds me is why it's in the tech section? Not that I care one way or the other; but what the heck is "technical" about solo diving? Too me at least solo diving is more about attitude then anything "technical".

Nothing, other than we really take care to come back from each dive without whining to or whining about someone else.

We both know that it is the same as recreational buddy diving but without the added liability. Oh sorry, I meant to say "backup".

There is nothing "technical" about solo diving, unless one considers the ability to think for yourself, plan and prepare your dive without assistance, and be able to help yourself out of an unforeseen circumstance as "technical".

But the majority of the training agencies that control our recreation don't teach those skills until one reaches the tech levels ...

They did at one time, at least the instructor I had did.

The lack off this is why many divers need a buddy and a dive computer to get back save :( So in general solo diving can be considered technical as these skills are not often taught in depth in "rec" dive training.
