A Nitrox card does not require any dives. I would not expect anyone to take my Nitrox card as proof that I am certified to dive. Much less proof that I am good for an "advanced" dive. Heck, I got my Nitrox card as soon as I finished OW, before I had any post-OW dives at all.
AFAIK you need an OW cert to take a nitrox course. I have a dive buddy who carries only his nitrox card. This is because he was certified decades ago and the card is decintegrating. He still has it, laminated. However it's not something he can carry. A replacement isn't possible because SSI bought the company and stopped issuing replacement cards after claiming records were lost in a fire.

My point is, he uses his NAUI nitrox card exclusively. It's never been a problem that's worth the huge cost of an additional scuba class to remedy. He did take a refresher with NAUI 4 or 5 years ago, but no card was issued for that.

I get that we want to put the stick to the deceased equine for some reason, but how exactly did you come up with THAT?

Bad assumption. Sorry. No more beating up a dead horse from my side. Hope you find a dive shop that fits your need. Dive safely!

You too! Have a great day!

My guess would be that the 10 am dive involves joining the other divers during the surface interval after the first dive and being a part of the second dive.

First dive to Maracaibo would raise a red flag to say the least! My husband and I are experienced, capable divers. However if a boat pulled up and declared that we would be diving such an advanced, deep, and current laden site without truly knowing or assessing our skills and experience would make me turn around and find another dive op that wasn't focused on pleasing the dive jocks.

Who said the Dive Op did not know his skills and how can anyone say there has never been a fatality with ProDive?

You can Google Cozumel dive sites and be directed to numerous pages outlining the reef system. The Maracaibo site is consistently listed as one of the more difficult and challenging dives. Personally, I would be annoyed if I was basically told that the first dive of my vacation would be at a site of such intensity. The post did not name your dive op, obviously you know the reefs and are clearly capable of following your instinct when it comes to your clientele. It is my personal preference to have the dive site voted on unanimously with input. To each his own.

I never mentioned anything about fatalities with Prodive. I have absolutely no familiarity with this dive op or their record.

As the person who told the story, I was happy to be able to dive Maracaibo on that first day, and if you read through my post about it, you will see that the dive operator would have known that because we talked about my planned dives the day before. They knew I would be happy about it. They knew I could handle it. You and I are different people, and we would have been treated differently. If we had showed up at the same pier on the same day with the same operator, a different boat would have picked you up, and they would not have been going to Maracaibo.

And, yes, Dave's dive operation was the one I was using.

I had the impression from that conversation that Markus never really intended to dive with Prodive in the first place. They seemed willing to accommodate, and he gave them a ration of **** and disconnected. Given that, and the post here, I was kind of wondering if it wasn't a ruse put on by a competitor.

My impression too, looked to be starting a fight IMO

I have gone to Maracaibo on my first dive of a trip to Cozumel. No concerns on my ability to do the dive or the overall safety of the trip conducted by the dive op. If my memory is correct the next day we went to Barracuda.

Of course I have been with that dive op (Aldora) for a while.
