Well, remember we are not in the the Yucatan, we are in Quintana Roo. That being said I had some really good motulenos in Merida Yucatan.

Isn't the state of Q. Roo located in the geographic region generally referred to as "Yucatan" (or "the Yucatan"), even though Yucatan is also the name of another state?

You are correct, I was thinking of Yucatan as the geographic region that includes Cozumel, but public health studies would be specific to the state and its public health department. However, it is still likely that the high prevalence of carriers in that region suggests that some of your food preparers and handlers may unknowingly harbor Salmonella as part of their normal bacterial flora.

Sorry to hear about the cold wind, I hope you are having fun in Cozumel!

I don't think people always understand the risks of not taking a few common-sense precautions to prevent acquiring infections when traveling (or they don't want to understand.)

Drink bottled water with intact seals....

Kathy: I have agreed with a lot of what you have said but have to call you on this one. It is almost impossible to drink bottled water with seals, intact or otherwise. They just won't do it. Beer, yes, a seal will drink beer from a bottle, but not gracefully and they are really sloppy drunks, so I don't think that is a good idea either. Plus it is illegal in some places to give beer to a seal.

Maybe you were thinking of sea lions? Perhaps a sea lion would drink water from a bottle, but I doubt it and am not going to try. Well, maybe I would have a drink with a young one, but adult sea lions are big and always seem grumpy. I am not going to have a drink with an adult sea lion, whether it is water or something else.

Oh, wait, I think I read your post wrong. Never mind.

Now THAT was funny right there, I don't care who you are!!

Update on the food-borne pathogens public health crisis here in Cozumel:

I've eaten runny-yoked eggs every morning in Coz for the past ten days, from at least two vendors. I've also had about a dozen fresh lemonades with *ice*, and I've even forgotten protocol and rinsed my toothbrush under the tap a few times. Oh and very nice Cesar salads too, about 6 of those.

Still seem to be alive and as healthy as when I landed.

I'd give Peter's post a "Like," but I am afraid of Kathy's wrath

No wrath at all! As I have said all along "here is the evidence, now go and make your own decisions" and I hope that we all stay well and enjoy our dive vacations! :D
