Thanks Joe, had a series of SMB and reel incidents in the St Lawrence last week. My wife's reel came undone and my sons SMB became undone all of course during the dive. My reel came undone right upon entry, I could feel something pulling looked back and saw the line disappear into the murky depths of the river. Never had these issues with the 20 dives in Coz.... Put the whole thing in a pouch!

De nada Mike! Might as well get one of these to mount it (ty-rap would work also):
Zeagle Quick Link with Strap at LeisurePro

Here is the pouch on my rig. I have the brass clip sticking out so I can reach back to find it.

It has a trick little round elastic band with a clamp holding it taught. The clip is right where my BC jacket ends. Nice. I really don't like to have dangling things, especially in front with my two strobe camera set-up. When I have to shoot the SMB. I can fold up the strobe arms and clip off the camera leaving both hands free to deploy the SMB. This is also relatively streamlined compared to dangling in the front. I really like it.

Every dive master I've asked about color here in Cozumel says Orange is the easiest to see in daylight and yellow at night.

Ever notice the SMB'S with orange on one side and yellow on the other always floats orange side up?

I carry my SMB in a pouch attached to bottom of my plate... right in the middle. My reel is is attached to my plate via a double snap, again, right in the middle. Haven't lost it yet.

JFS, are you in Cozumel?

All, I am not concerned with which is easiest to see, the logic of why one colour is better than another or how to store them. I just want to know the colour the boats typically expect. Or you can tell me where to get 16gm threaded co2 cartridges in Cancun or Cozumel and I'll bring the full set.

I believe the answer, as stated earlier, is that in Cozumel, there is no standard. I see Orange, Yellow and an occasional Pink one. The actual color does not have special meaning unless a specific meaning is established with your captain prior to the dive.

CO2 cartridges? Don't you have the AP Diving crack bottle?

I think he told you what they tend to 'expect' as in what is most common. The better answer is 'whatever color you work out with the captain.' Some ops prefer you let the DM shoot the tube as the Capi KNOWS it. Other don't care, but on a crowded reef the Capi better know what yours looks like if you are shooting it. For that I would think really different would be best.

Thank you all, yes I do have a crack bottle, it is on an orange one, my yellow one is co2. I don't fancy the hassle at airport security either would cause. Ideally I'll use the AP one inflated by my dry suit hose.
