So I have a couple days of diving coming up and I'm noticing a strange phenomenon. Any time I'm about to dove I feel compelled to buy some sort of new dive toy. I know my equipment will last for ages, and I don't need anything, yet any time the prospect of diving is around the corner I feel compelled to spend more money!!! Is this normal?

LOL thankfully I'm avoiding Christmas tree syndrome like the plague so far but I keep wanting to replace stuff I already have!

You fully recovered from your scorpionfish sting? Or was it a stonefish

Yeah, I can't drive past a dive shop without stopping, and it must be a crappy shop indeed for me not to buy something. It's just how it is. I have boxes full of unused widgets.

It's genetic. Divers tend to have very active "play" genes, and playing is always more fun when it involves new toys ...

Same thing used to happen to me with my motorbike. I would walk into the shop needing a new oil filter and suddenly get distracted by the array of shiny new bling. It's not limited to divers! :D

Now for sale at highly attractive prices?? :D

Let me know if you need a widget. I may even pay shipping..... :p

Once I got past your current syndrome by buying one ( or more ) of everything, the next issue I encountered was "dive shop hunting," which is cruising dive shops and looking for dive "things" you don't have so there is something new to acquire. This is a life long condition that cannot be cured, only controlled, sometimes, by an intervening family member, most often a spouse.
