Hey,

I have to replace a dive computer. I want a wrist-mounted computer that looks like a watch. That's necessary. I don't particularly care about air integration. I had a suunto and like that it was reputed to be a conservative algorithm. So, I'm looking at Suunto's again but my shop is a big Mares dealer and people are talking to me about the Matrix. What do people have and recommend that fit this description.

Thanks,

Mike

I would get a Suunto Zoop. The fact that the shop I deal with promotes Mares would have nothing to do with my decision.

geo 2.0

I've had the D4i & transmitter for a year, and it's great. Got around 200 dives on it, travel with it, and seems to be bullet proof. This "monkey business" about Suunto being too conservative continues to mystify me. I'm consistently the first one in the water (off the boat) and the last one out. Oh, did I mention I'm alive too, and have never taken "a hit" ? :) I'm not saying it's the best, but it is nice and works for me. If you are looking to purchase soon, Aqualung/Suunto just kicked off a promotion where you can trade in your old computer and get a sizable chunk off of a new computer.

For a Suunto watch style, check out their webpage and see which one you're in to?
Sadly the Stinger is gone- you may be able to pick one up somewhere in the world... but chances are growing slimmer. I got the 2nd to last one in NZ a couple of years ago. It was stolen off the boat in Sharm a few months later :(

The next in line is the D4 then D9. I really wish they'd downsize again to make Stingers or even mosquitos which were pretty nifty.

I tend to gravitate towards companies that specialise in certain areas- like Suunto and watches. Mares/Scubapro etc. companies which come out with new regs, new BCDs and new computers every second year should IMO concentrate on doing something well instead of trying to pick up slices of different pies.

why the geo2.0?

What do you like about the d4i?

I've had the D4i (and wireless transmitter), since the first day it came out in June 2011. It's great, and I've had Zero Issues with it (over 200 dives), it travels nicely, cuts down on a bulky reg set-up, downloadable dives, (MacDive), you can wear as a watch, lot's of features including a Dive Planner. For me, part of it is a "clutter: thing, no bulky computer attached to reg. It's small like a watch, comfortable to wear, (especially when traveling). I most like the fact that it is constantly "crunching numbers". When on a dive trip, it takes into consideration the last 4 days worth of dives, depths, residuals, etc., and basically does the math for you, for the current days' dives. It gives you a graphic display of 9 tissue compartments. Or, you can use the dive planner, as well. If God forbid something does happen to you while diving or on the trip home, your "weeks history" is right there on your wrist, in the event of something. It's actually improved my dive times overall :) Just my 2 cents.

I like being able to choose between the models and the ease of use of the geo 2.0....never used the D series so I cannot comment in the ease of use...without needing to read more than a couple of pages as with the geo.

I have had the Suunto D6 for about 4 years and have had great reliability and service with it. I wear it as an everyday watch also. I have replaced the battery once.

I really like my scubapro meridian. Its a watch, no air integration, and stainless steel body.
