Hair Hair Everywhere

Hi ladies!

I have very long, thick hair. When I did my OW checkouts I was miserable. I could not keep it out of my mask. I asked my DM and he said his wife does a braid down the back. Great idea, but the more I think about it, I think that I will still have a problem as my front hair is shorter than in the back. I am thinking a swimcap, like what competetive swimmers use. I thought about using a hood, but I tried on a few different types and I hate the way it feels on my neck, like I'm being strangled. I'm still open to suggestions for a different type of hood, though. What do you ladies with long hair do? I'd like to have it all the way up, either all in a hood or swim cap, or whatever. Thanks in advance!

I also have very thick long hair and I use a single plait down the back, but secure it with a lacky at the top first then plait the bulk of it. I use wet gloves to push all the short stray bits back out the way before putting on my mask. This works ok. I would much prefer to have my hair in two braids but lack both the coordination and patience to do this myself. Seriously contemplating shaving it off and getting a wig...

I put conditioner in my hair then do a single braid and put a hood on. The hood can be uncomfortable but you get used to it. I don't even feel it around my neck while under the water - it's weird but that strangulating feeling goes away.

My hair is also ALWAYS in the way...I have tried a swim cap (fell off) and every other method of hair control....the best I've found is a lava core hood-not as confining/tight as the other hoods I have tried.
Give it a shot-or if you find something better let us know!

i have layered hair which is always getting in the way diving. I use a doorag. works. not attractive but it works

You might consider a very thin, stretchy lycra hood. It tucks into the suit and is not restrictive.

I've never used one, but there are hoods that are more helmet-like--with a chin strap and all. I also hate the feeling of neck constriction and will probably end up with these when my current hood falls apart.

When I'm not wearing a hood, I just ponytail my hair and clip back my bangs with one or two banana clips. It's not perfect, but a little hair in my eyes doesn't bother me, either.

It's also much easier to get the hair out of your mask once you're underwater

vaseline/baby oil then braid the hair, it keeps the salt out as well.
