I see what you are saying, but it's not what I got from going back and reading. I would like to be clear on it.

conchrandy: We were both typing at the same time. Do you know what the sunken "Get Wet's" name was when it was documented? I ask because I didn't see it in the database, and I think (?) that I have seen previously-documented-but-expired boats there before.

Edited to add: I have answered one of my questions at the USCG National Vessel Documentation Center online. You can delete a vessel from the documentation records if you file a request form, available here:

(Which makes me think that my previous observation is not necessarily wrong, which is that many expired documentations do still show up in the vessel database - apparently that is the default until you file to have it removed.)


I wonder if it is "big" enough to be documented? I'm more used to calculating the tonnage for sailboats, and the formula is slightly different, so that's just me thinking out loud. [Well, I'm not easily finding the principal dimensions of the Burpee 30 (27?), so I'm not able to use the simplified measurement application to figure it out.]

One last added note: Are we confusing a Coast Guard Inspected Vessel, with a Coast Guard Documented Vessel?

I was told by the USCG that the vessel was once inspected but failed subsequent inspections. As far as I know it was always "Get Wet". I'm also aware of a boat with a similar name in the Upper Keys.
 
Okay, I think I have figured out where I got confused. Earlier in the thread, when Wookie was talking about (what turned out to be) the other Get Wet, we were discussing CG Documented vs. Undocumented vessels (which you can look up in the CB database, and where I believe I found the documentation record for the other Get Wet). So we had that straightened out.

I think now, later in the thread, we are talking about CG Inspected vs. Uninspected Passenger Vessels. Which if I'm not mistaken is two different things. Sorry for any confusion that I contributed to.
 
I don't know how they do it in FL but any worldwide charter I have been on charged my card before the boat left the dock the first time. So I do not think we should hang them for that unless we know for fact they rang it through after the accident.....and often times it takes a day or two for the weekend charges to officially hit an account. Just food for thought.

I thought Key Largo was in the upper keys. Did you mean to say lower keys??

I think the other "Get Wet" is based out of Key Largo (from what I read it is one of Silent World's boats). If that's true, it would be the upper keys.

That does not mean that is when it was processed through the charter's terminal. It seems you just want to stir things up so have fun.

Yes there are two dive vessels in Key Largo named the "Get Wet". One run by Scuba Shack, the other is Silent World's second vessel.

This did give me a "heart-in-my-throat" moment this summer when one of the Get Wets had a medical emergency at the same dive site that my friends were diving at on the other Get Wet. I was relieved it wasn't one of my friends, but any incident is a sad event.

The 20th was a Tuesday.

Seeing Monday was the first business day after the weekend, the Credit card "clearing house" could have run the charge on Monday and it was done in batch mode that night and transferred to her credit card company overnight, posting to her account on Tuesday.


Credit Card companies don't do "instant transfers" and show it posted on the account the instant something is charged. most charges go through "middlemen companies" between the merchant and the credit card company.


So the charge hitting her account on the 20th is a very likely scenario.


If I buy gas from a small independent gas station, it usually takes 2-3 days for it to post on my bill. Buying an item from a larger company that might have a more direct relationship with the credit card companies, is MUCH quicker. (Like buying something from Amazon).

A LDS would be similar to any other small merchant that might take longer. This is regardless of the LDS/dive operation in the Keys.


Not trying to defend this shop. Just saying it prob went through as processed and was just the typical delay.
