By the way, Deep Sea Fishing in Cozumel is absolutely world class. The second time my brother went , he hooked and released of course an 11 foot Blue Marlin. I like catching Dorado, Wahoo and Tuna myself. Fresh grilled Wahoo is reason enough for me to go to Cozumel. Been going there for 20 years now to dive and fish. Been to lots of other places in the Caribbean, lots of them, ONCE, to dive and fish. Cozumel is the total package. But be warned. I dont know anyone who has only been there once; except for maybe scubafanatic.

Apparently even scubafanatic went twice. Must be some kind of masochist to endure trauma like that again.

One of this times, I may need a try a fishing trip. I tell ya we bought some red snapper off the back of a fishing boat at Caleta and took it to El Fish in a black trash bag. That was about the best fish I think I ever had......

I went to Cozumel for a week each in 1991 and 1995 and then did 2 boat dives in 2000 on a very short trip. I had not been back until this past August when I did 10 dives in a long weekend. Other than the improvements on the surface and reading the news, based solely on the diving, I would not have noticed that a hurricane came through. I thought there were more fish (especially big angels) than I had seen on any previous trip. There were definitely more nurse sharks and turtles. I dove northern Yukab into Tormentos, Chankanaab, Paradise (at night) and also hit the shallow parts of Palancar. Comparing to my logs from the early 90s, I like the reefs much better this time around.

I also caught that Cozumel disease that causes me to check flights and hotel deals almost daily for the time I can return.

Cozumel is a great place to go to, and I'm not knocking it, but Bonaire shore diving can become a religious experience..

Completely and wholeheartedly agree! Love both but almost two completely different worlds.

Okie Mike: Thanks for adding some perspective. I was wanting to do the same to discount the curmudgeon but you beat me to it.

How about some average hotel suggestions "in town" so we can avoid the all inclusive meal option & not have to take a cab or a long walk for all our dinner options? Trying to avoid the all inclusive meal plan which well get us out & about the town & try different dinner options..

There are tons of existing threads with that information.

I strongly agree with the idea of eating at the many great restaurants. I don't think there's a particular need to stay in town, and even if you did you'd still be in for quite a lot of hiking to sample a range of restaurants.

So dont choose a hotel due to location cuz regardless ill have to take a short cab ride in order to get some variety / good eats?
