Actually, I have been to 1.8+ in a moment of temporary stupidity, but I'd still never suggest anyone else try it. What was acceptable years ago is debatable. Your 32% dive to 147 ft was beyond recommend safety limits, and I still would not suggest 32% to 130.

Yes and no, depends what you are doing at 130, no deco dives and managing your 24 hour CNS exposure you should be ok keeping it under 1.6, I would be more cautious doing a week of diving, with deco because you are going to run into the 24 hour limits pretty quick.

$58 for Nitrox in double HP 100's in NY is not out of the ball park. It is them charging for a nitrox fill, even one, on double tanks to give me 1250 psi of 21% that is just rubbing me the wrong way.

What are they filling tanks with in NY? A hand crank?

I've seen stores that charge by the cubic foot for gases other than air which seems like a fair system. But I've also had an LDS owner point out to someone asking for a free top off, "My compressor has to work hardest to get the cascade bank up past 3000 psi. The first 500 psi of air is free, each PSI after that gets more expensive."

I would also agree with some of the other posters, with some fairly basic equipment and some training you can accomplish some fairly advanced mixes.

"should" just doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

By the way FWADIVER, how many nitrox dives do you have? You sound like quite the expert. :D

all of them, I haven dove just air since open water, Being an 'expert' on the rules and decompression theory just takes some reading and intuition, after reading every bit I can get my hands on and how the limits were established etc I feel comfortable making my own calls, Its much better to understand where the rules come from than to just blindly follow padi's 1.2ppo2 and no more. 1.6 is the acceptable safe limit, the problem is when doing deco dives, or multiple days on rich mixes you are going to start bumping into your 24 hour limits(which have no half life) for CNS which is where the 1.2-1.4 guidelines come from, saving the richer gases for where they do the most good (ie. deco). If you are talking just a single day of NDL diving I wouldn't have a problem pushing 1.6 for the whole dives just realizing that the 24 hour limit (or 80% of it which the the accepted technical standard AFAIK) is the driving factor. Just remember you have to do your own research and dive planning.

Under no circumstances should you be charged nitrox prices again since you are just getting air from them this time. Hell, unless you told them why would they even know what mix was in them?

what's the problem to go beyond the CNS limits ?
