How about this sign.

Or this one?

With a couple word edits this is the most appropriate sign. Of course 300 divers haven't died at CRB and Monastery...thousands have!

Best I have ever seen Peter, that might get the attention of some of the Ignorant!!

I think there's three or four fatalities a year at Monastery. I'm sure there's more traffic deaths, but it's in the same range as cave deaths or rebreather deaths right? On pure count, not %, naturally.

Check out the issue of November/December California Diver Magazine, I think the author said something like 20 divers a year die at Monastary, I could be Mistaken...

Wow. 20 divers? Or does that include beachcombers and photographers?

What is / where is the "wash rock"?

Right before the wall, see the foam on the surface? There's a slot into the kelp that points towards it. It basically goes straight down to 20-30, then pretty quickly down to 60, heading westish.

I don't know way ... but looks like that our "virtual divers" likes to dive deep sites

Makes sense that people would want to see the stuff they can't see IRL. It also makes sense from a gaming / goal point of view. I'm not sure how your sim is set up (havent installed Windows yet) with respect to attractions, but I can imagine some biases there.

So, for the dive area I think I will go for a section of 700m x 700m (1m resolution) covering the head of the Carmel Canyon.
More specifically the focus of the dive site will be the Monastery Wall for advanced divers (down to ~140ft). Of course, technical diver will be able to explore the rest of the canyon (max depth for the section is 161m)

Looks like you're missing out on a good bit of South Monastery in your chosen region. It's a nice dive, more or less following the contour of the rocky shore around the bend.

It's not nearly that bad. I've been keeping records on NorCal
dive fatalities since 1999, and I show six deaths at Monastery in
that time.

FWIW, the small reef you've labeled The Whisker was called "DeepSouth" in the late 1970's. We dove this once in a while from an inflatable. The name was coined by Reid Borgwardt IIRC.

You might consider moving your attention just a wee bit south to Point Lobos...there is lots of diving done there, more so than Monastary.

All the best, James

I'll second that. Just move the south boundary down.

A dive guide once brought a group of us to Deep South also known as Whiskers told us that it is a good place to find lost gear. That day he only found a snorkel.
Now that I recall, that same day we dove there, there was a wedding going on at that beach and at the same time a diver died at North Monastery ( helicopters ect. was at the scene), I wrote the date in a logbook somewhere. I wonder if anyone else remembers this.

As far as moving the attention a bit South, Monolobos would be awesome! Dove the sight with more than 80' vis twice and thought it was incredible.
