My husband and I are considering a trip to the Key West area next year and thought some diving would be fun while we're there, but I'm not seeing much about those parts here on SB...why do you suppose that is? Am I not looking in the right place?
What sort of diving does the Keys offer?
Thanks so much!
Pamela
Very Possibly, Pamela.....
Then you are not looking in the right place - if you go to the "Search" function, you will see many, many posts about the Keys, as well as Key West - one of the most popular topics - along with weather and sea condition questions for times way in the future.
I'll give you some feedback - based on 30+ years as a Miami resident and Keys diver:
I LOVE Key West - its a neat, unique place and highly recommend it it for a few days to anyone interested in a place not often seen in the United States.
Lots to recommend - except for the diving - which I give a huge thumbs down - even the Vandenberg, which we did a year ago - well, I know this goes contrary to many - I was not wowed - if you get great - or even good conditions, your experience could be better.
If you want to dive the Keys, best areas are Key Largo and Islamorada - sure, Looe Key is nice (its close to Key West) - but for more diversity, you need to go to KL and/or Islamorada.
Depending upon time and budget, you can combine the 2 - I'd dive the northern Keys and spend 2 nights in KW - KW is about 90 miles from Key Largo, so its not feasable to stay in KW and dive KL.
