You don't just clip the spool or lock the reel? I generally let the spool just dangle there.
I do clip or lock it first before clipping it onto the stage, yes... but no, I don't just let it hang there while I'm stowing. We get some pretty wild currents in the Philippines, up, down, sideways, around. If you lose your SMB next stop can be the South China Sea. I wouldn't do it if I was in an area of high boat traffic (in case the SMB got hooked up), but that's not the case in the Verde Island passage

Usually my buddy will be doing the same thing at the same time, a few metres away. I prefer to keep a bit of distance, again currents, tangling SMB lines etc. Yes you could hand it off, that's just not the way we do it. Maybe it takes me longer to stow the hose to my satisfaction than it takes you
