No trolling. Black masks are swell-I have one, and a pink one, and a blue one. And several snorkels. I have been made fun of by a 65# wing single tank, black mask, no snorkel wannabie-tech diver for using pink stuff and worse a snorkel.... :rofl3:

That doesn't make him a wannabe ... it makes him an idiot ... I've run into a few of those in my time. Not worth noticing ...

I use a snorkel when the boat diving in rough seas. I have found that diving in rough seas the waves tend to go over your head fairly easy but in most cases the snorkel maintains just enough height to clear the crest. If its calm water or going to be any length of swim from the boat or shore I will consider wearing one based on the conditions at hand.

I did learn the other day with my first exposure to a DPV that when using it to return to shore it tends to pull you face down in the water even on the surface so a snorkel is useful then :)

I use a snorkel when I snorkel.
Long hose deployment, grabbing my snorkel when I mean to grab my wing inflator, entanglement hazard...etc. I just do not want to use one. Worst comes to worst, I use my gas on my back.

Egbert Snorkopolous.

Yes Very True! He actually invented it so he could sleep with his head under the covers at night. It wasn't until 1932 that Samuel Scubatate Saw the use in the invention for under water use ;)

Wow, I just knew the name, I didn't realise the whole story. Thanks :)

I still use my snorkel mainly in waves. I am new though and an air hog. I will one day probably move it to the pocket and then to my bag and finally to the shelf.
