The diving in Pattaya is cool you get good the bad and the ugly .I have dived with Mermaids but i did not have a good day with them .Poor dive skills from their so called dive masters the wc was always blocked i think they had too many divers on the boat but thats me .Try Seaduction or Real Divers both are good dive shops with every thing you need and the dms have good knowledge of all the dive sites in Pattaya .

Yes any of these shops whose core business is IDC internships are best avoided in my mind for your average diving customer. Also from many incidents I have witnessed, a customer wishing to do an individual course should also be wary as standards of training may not be as good as what you would receive from a more experienced proffesional instructor. At the end of the day most of these interns are still learning themselves.

Yes I believe that to still be the case.

I know they dont have their own boat, so even if it is now not Mermaids boat they are using, it will be one of the others.

If I recall right it was the Paradise Boat which was operated by Mermaid since they took over. It had Mermaid divers on it and I think Neptun.

I dive with Real Divers professional ,fun very safe to dive with they have a great speed boat and well manitained dive kit also the 2 English guy's who own the shop seem to have been in Pattaya for over 15 years and their dad is still diving with them nice guy's worth going diving with and going out on the town afterwards ok thats me .

Dont know too much about this shop myself, but I belive the owners are very experienced instructors themselves.
Nice to see if they are now using a speedboat of their own it will be much better for their own customers rather than placing them on boats full of IDC students.
Might have to give that a try myself. Thanks for the info Harry.

The quality of staff at all the shops I dived with recently realy was not up to much of a standard.

As I said on a different Thread, I dive with Real Divers and do education with them. I have dived with others out there too, but found the Real Divers Team to be the best for me.
In fact I am currently one of their Interns and on their 'Pay as you go' Intern package.
Having spoken to interns from all over who are or have trained with other dive outfits, it looks like the Real Divers pay as you go Internship programme is the only one around and for me is proving to be ideal as I can only be out there for limited periods of time.
The other good thing is they spent time with me at the beginning to work out exactly what I wanted and what I should go for in terms of courses. I know some other places will get you to do MSD when you dont need to, which will of course increase the overall price, wont it?
As you can see I am very much in favour of their approach :)
There is a fair amount of individual courses going on and customers who just want a days diving. to be honest, people have a good day :)
Penguintom, have you had the chance to pop in to the Real Divers shop and have a chat with the team there? I would be very suprised if you didnt find what you were after.
Have a great weekend everyone

I am so pleased to be hearing so many good reports about Real divers, at last do we have a shop in Pattaya that wants to look after customers.
I have looked at the website and I must say this policy of pay as you go for internships looks to be very fair for both the shop and the customer. Such a refreshing change to the attitude of 'lets get as much money possible and give the least possible in return' that other Pattaya shops adopt.

Real divers, if you read this forum, Keep it up and long may you prosper.

Real divers don't have there own boat but book on to a few of the smaller boats run by seaduction, adventure divers etc. Never seen them out on a speedboat though!

Yes that was previously my understanding of the situation.
But within reason who cares about the boat, they are getting positive feedback from several people so they must be doing something right. Thats more than can be said for the others in the area.

From my experience they were the best I dove with. The only point is that their mindset is 100 % PADI-religion. But as everything is shallow in Pattaya this isn't a problem.
