I don't know if he is the driving force behind removal of interesting things down there or not. I DO know that he removed the guitar on a stick that was down there a few months back. Stella put it under her fill shack. A couple of us then "reinstalled" it, but noticed upon subsequent dives a few weeks later that it was gone and not around......
Don't know what happened to it, but I thought it was kind of fun!

I'll make a point of chatting with him about the situation next time I see him to clarify what his intent or thinking is. Going back over there mid November

Yes, it would be nice to know why... I liked the guitar, got it on one of my videos and then the next time down to BH it was gone. We know Burt, but hadn't known there was a problem to bring up to him. Maybe we will go over and talk to him this week. :(

Maybe we need to bring so much stuff down each time we go, that it overwhelms anyone trying to remove it all. If someone is making many many trips up and down removing items, it could lead to DCI.... just kidding...sort of...

We spoke to Scott last night and he says that there is a group of people who have decided that they want to return BH to its natural state and remove all of the "junk". Bert is one of them in the group. Don't know about the statue though, he said he hasn't seen it which leads me to believe it is no longer in the Hole. Not sure though.

Looks like Ron's OW group is cancelled though so we may just go over and dive this weekend for the heck of it. We'll let you all know if we do.

Great, just what we need a grass roots movement to *protect* the hole. I certainly don't want to see a bunch of stuff down there that is toxic, or making a mess. The statue OTOH is classy, and IMO adds interest.

I'm not sure I know Scott, but I bet I do by sight. Burt DEFINATELY saw the statue. In fact he had it in his posession at the surface while I was standing there talking to him! He indicated that he would put it back at a *better* spot on the bottom.

If that did not happen, I say fine, he pays for it. That statue was not free, nor is it his to remove and put in his garden. Some would call that *stealing*.

And who gave them the right to make this decision? Are they authorized by Santa Rosa to do this continual cleanup?

If Santa Rosa has instituted a policy forbidding the addition of non-native materials to the BH, then it needs to post that policy publicly. If there is no such policy, then no one has the right to create and enforce one.

Yes, you know Scott, he was filling your tanks for you. He helps out Stella alot these days, filling in so she can go out of town, and also does her maintenance on the compressors. :D (he will be there this Sunday too, filling tanks so Stella can go to her son's wedding)

I am really curious as to why this group has decided now to start cleaning out BH. Yes, I agree it was getting junky, some of the toys were annoying, but why now are they taking everything out? Is this something the city is behind or just a group of dive nazis.

I thought I recognized that nefarious do gooder on the right wearing that gay blue DUI... ohh wait, that's my buddy Kevin! :rofl3::rofl3:

Yeah, I do know Scott, but not well. I think those in ABQ need to have a discussion with those OTHERS in ABQ and with Santa Rosa and get the skinny (Stella is always a good source). After observation of Santa Rosa in action, I seriously doubt they are behind the removal of stuff at the Hole.

Kevin, let Scott/Burt know that sure they can remove the statue, but they owe us (mostly Kent, but some of us also put in) $100. Seriously, this is not a trivial piece of crap.

I guess stike this a bit if the statue is still there, so that is the biggest question... Is it?

We have put somewhat *classy* stuff down there before, and now it's mostly gone with the recent "do gooders" taking action I assume.... :shakehead:

I think you are misunderstanding something, Scott has in no way been involved in the removal of anything. He and Burt are not even friends. He was just my source in finding out what is going on over there with the "stuff".

Burt, on the other hand, is Burt and does whatever he wants to do. Talking to him about it will probably be useless. We know him but only through his dive shop (he keeps trying to woo Ron over to work for him as he says he has more students now than ever).
I would suggest that it be addressed to Burt after someone has a chance to go down into the Hole and see what is still there for sure. Let's get all our ducks in a row before we start anything or demanding payment. We won't be over this weekend but we are thinking of going over next weekend on Sunday, depending on weather.

UPDATE:

Dove the hole last Sunday and the "Venus de Fort Collins" is not at the bottom, but tucked up in the golf ball farm area.

It looks good and that is a good place for her since more OW students can enjoy her beautiful lines....

:D
