I don't follow you on this one. Are you saying the the warranty is valid from LP? Or are you meaning that the rules are preventing LP from the same thing scubastore.com is doing?

I know LP has some "hidden" connection to some manufactures, its not debatable that they sell far too much of certain mfg. products to not have a source to get it.

It is true that if your store does enough volume in sales any company would be willing to bend the rules so they don't lose you as a dealer, not just Scubapro / scubastore.com, but in general.

I would guess the warranty with LP is as good as SP. SP either deals with LP directly or allows a known intermediary to supply their lofty needs. All they would have to do is spot purchase their products and research the serial numbers otherwise....

can you confirm that LP has a Scubapro warranty? Lp offers warranty through them and they admit they arnt an authorized dealer

LP has their own warranty program to supplant the lack of SP's program. If not for that detail the other LDS's would have a good cause of action against SP. For the savings involved who cares about the warranty. Most scuba products are machined steel and plastic or injected rubber. What's there to go wrong? With regard to the free regulator service parts program you miss one year's service and its null and void anyway.

I guess I misunderstood your comment. My point was that I was aware that LP offered their own warranty, but you have to mail everything in to them.

The free parts for life from SP has little impact on LP... EXCEPT in the case of someone wanting to dish out cash for a computer that only Scubapro can do warranty work on, which is the case here.

LP or scubastore.com .... Scubastore.com for me!

For the subject computer I agree...

I had been looking to purchase a Galileo from a European dealer. However, the retailer indicated that they would not sell any Scubapro products to buyers in the United States, saying that the warranty, software, features, units, etc, etc, could differ from products purchased in the US market. At the time, I must admit to being a little miffed, but after reading all this, I'm glad I waited. As it turned out, I ended up buying one of the new Luna models from my LDS this past weekend. Granted, I didn't save any money, but hopefully it'll be easier to get fixed if anything ever goes wrong with it.

You wil really enjoy the computer. It is stress free diving glancing to your forearm for all information...

I don't personally use the Galileo (Sol) my wife does. But here's a tip. Get used to people asking you if you can watch T.V. or play a dvd on it. One of my wife's better responses was to a guy on the dive boat in Catalina, CA who asked. With a straight face and all of the seriousness in the world she said "yes! I can usually pick-up 2 to 4 stations. ABC, NBC, CBS, and sometimes even a local PBS station. But, I can't seem to get any reception here or I'd show you. I would've got the optional satellite dish, but they only offer it with Dish network and I prefer Directv." We're certain that the guy believed her at the time. And I have to admit, she sounded convincing and this was back when they first came out and no one had really seen them yet. We just wonder how long it took him to figure it out.:D

Thanks for the comments Valhalla and FishOUtUvH2o!

I'm off to Turks & Caicos this weekend; really looking forward to using it. I'm hopeful it will be a reliable unit. Have you guys had any other problems with yours? Most of what I've read has been to do with sync issues (similar to part of this thread), but not much else?

I also have a TUSA IQ800, which has been a great computer (love the vibrate alarms). People comment all the time about how large it is. However, the Galileo is WAY bigger! I've already gotten some looks; no questions about TV reception as yet, but I'll keep your story in mind if someone ever asks. I really like the new satellite radio, cellphone, GPS, and high-res video camera. The pop-out church key is a great feature too!

People always look at my wife or I and ask about the Sol. I just use the excuse that I'm nearly blind and I like the BIG font view :)

To be honest, the only difference software wise between the Luna and the Sol is Luna shipped with firmware 1.5 and the Sol at most LDS all have 1.4.x. The main difference is Apena feature for free diving. Firmware 1.5 is avalaible on the Scubapro Website under Software to update the Sol.

Mind if I ask what the price on the Luna was? The reason I ask is the Luna was supposed to come without the heart monitor and the multi-tank tracking that the Sol has. From the reports I hard heard (hear say at this point) was the Luna was almost the same price as the Sol.

Regardless of what country you purchase your Galilleo coputer in, the menu Languages and Display Units (PSI vs Bar, Feet vs Meters, etc) are all changed on the computer through the menu system.
