This image is from a Humminbird Side Imaging SONAR and was featured in a story that appears at: http://newsok.com/sonar-discovers-stolen-suv-in-lake/article/3352976

Dive Rescue International is offering the Humminbird 1197C SI Combo SAR and the 997C SI Combo SAR units to public safety teams and more information can be found at:
http://www.diverescueintl.com/pdfs/997c%20SAR%20FactSheet.pdf
http://www.diverescueintl.com/pdfs/1197c SAR FactSheet.pdf

I pass this information along because these Humminbird Combo SAR SONAR units cost less than $3,000 and can greatly improve a team's ability to locate objects while preventing potential risk to the divers. While these units don't do all that a "real" side scan SONAR system does, they offer a tremendous "bang for the buck" and cost less than 10% of the more robust systems.

Sonar discovers stolen SUV in Edmond lake
Theft happened 10 years ago

BY DIANA BALDWIN
Published: March 14, 2009

EDMOND New sonar equipment helped Edmond Police Department's dive team find a car this week that was stolen 10 years ago and embedded in the bottom of Arcadia Lake.
A search of the license tag showed an insurance company paid a claim on the vehicle in July 1999, but police are still trying to determine from where the vehicle was stolen.
Police officials purchased the side-scan sonar equipment about three weeks ago. The equipment mounts on a patrol boat and helps locate objects underwater, particularly drowning victims, said Rockie Yardley, the police departments technical investigator.
The equipment, which cost $2,100, was used in locating the Titanic, Yardley said.
"Not bad to have it such a short time and already solve a 10-year-old crime, he said. "It will make our job a lot easier and quicker when we are looking for something in the water.
The Honda Passport was in 13-foot deep water where the temperature was about 45 degrees.
"The car was full of mud all the way up to the center console, Yardley said.
Both airbags were missing from the vehicle. Yardley said sometimes people steal vehicles just to get the airbags, which cost about $2,000 each.

A guy in our department just bougth a side scan for fishing from Gander Mountain. He says he can find very small objects to large objects with it. He plans on scanning the river to find "targets" for us to dive. Price was around 2000.00

It is very lkely that the unit purchased is a Humminbird, just not the "Combo SAR" unit that includes an instructional DVD for public safety personnel. Also, if you will, please let him know there is a new upgrade available online.

blades thanks for the info we have used the hummingbird and this is what i have found conditions and object size and density matters but it is a tool to throw in the fray and i have met some gifted operators . like ank skil or tool it takes trigger time. but if a dept does not have say 30,000 lieing around for a couple grand and some training time we have a new tool.

all stay safe and remember courage thruogh knowledge, skill through training

Blades,

We have been approved for the purchase of a Hummingbird sonar in a few months. Are the units sold at Dive Rescue Intl different than the ones sold at boat and marine stores?

Johnny M.

Dive Rescue International sells the "Combo SAR" units that include an instructional DVD for SAR use. To my knowledge, most marine stores do not offer the SAR combo unit. The retail pricing for the recreational units and the "SAR Combo" units is the same so most team prefer getting the "most bang for their buck" and purchasing the unit that includes the DVD.

Hey Blades,

We ordered one of the 1197SI NVB from Dive Rescue Intl and I assumed when I bought it that it would come with the sear & Rescue DVD, but when we got it in it did not. I had spoke with Linda and got a quote on both the NVB and the SAR and chose the NVB because of the preloaded navigation maps. Is there any way that we can get one of the S&R dvd's?

I am surprised to learn that your unit did not include the DVD. I will work to get one sent to you ASAP.

In the future though, please do not hesitate to contact me through the office. There are times when I go for several weeks at a time to the remote areas of the Bahamas and don't have internet access. I can be reached at:

BladesRobinson at DiveRescueIntl.com

Thanks in advance and thank you for your business. It is apreciated!
