There is no way but the DIR way, anything else will get you killed.

No matter how well it works for the AVERAGE OW diver, again most divers are not 2-300+ft technical divers doing staged decompression dives using multiple gas mixtures.

They are going to see the pretty reef in the Caribbean, or see the ships that are sunk in the pretty warm clear water that were put there by an organization that stripped them of EVERY cable, widget and thingy that might catch a diver.

Do I think that some of the clips divers use are to big or are being used for the incorrect application? yes, but thats the best part about this world and being an individual. Everyone is entitled to do as they wish.

Are there entanglement hazards everywhere? yes. A diver could die by going someplace they shouldn't and getting their tank valve twisted around loose wires and panicking.

one of theses days some all knowing DIR guy is going to get trapped in current and be unable to release one of those cheap bolt snaps and die because he didn't spend $50 plus on marine grade snap shackles.

( In all seriousness, these are sometimes used in tethered diving operations and by some river divers since you can release them even if there is a strong tension on the rope, or whatever they are attached to.(quote)




I use those if I have anything attached to me that I might have to ditch easily and with one hand while under tension such as a speargun.

By the way, I have used the "suicide" clips for years without any entanglement issues but the bolt snaps are easier to operate with heavy gloves.

You see, most people, maybe ALL who bash DIR do it on philosophy and the piss poor reputation it's gotten, not on the facts of what DIR is. You're doing it, too.
