It was the brass spring clip that killed him?

"The most gruesome was in 1985 when a Florida diver, John Ormsby got clipped into a dangling cable and could not get free. At 210 fsw the narcosis coupled with panic sent him into a frenzy. His panic, coupled with a restrictive gear configuration resulted in his mangling and twisting himself around more cables and wires to the point where recovery divers needed to use bolt cutters to extricate his body."

and the dancing starts.

Its funny how people get defensive about products they use and the lengths they will go to justify the use of said product.

too funny.

Raise your hand if you have ever been entangled by a clip to the point your felt your life was really endagered. I doubt you could even provide a single, verifiable case.

I think the chances of my getting trapped and killed by a brass spring clip are lower than me getting swallowed by a whale.

I think this does happen in heavy technical diving. For example there is a case described in Deep Descent of a diver dying on a dive to the Andria Doria, who used sprung clips around his waist. It was thought he got ensnared by a line.

In deep diving (which I don't do but read about) any minor complication can cause a huge increase in work of breathing and stress.

I just find that the intolerant manner in which you dive does not fit all recreational divers.

You spelled each word correctly. Good work.

because GI3 [-]god[/-] knows that has a lot to do with someones ability to dive

Funny how the insults start as soon as the facts and logic stop.

Where the insults?

and who stopped using logic?

that's why we attach 'em with line. They can be cut free if this situation arises

But wait, what about snap shackles. After all, if we are worried what connector is going to kill us don't we want one that can be released under tension like a snap shackle

West Marine: Quick-Release Shackles Product Display

one of theses days some all knowing DIR guy is going to get trapped in current and be unable to release one of those cheap bolt snaps and die because he didn't spend $50 plus on marine grade snap shackles.

( In all seriousness, these are sometimes used in tethered diving operations and by some river divers since you can release them even if there is a strong tension on the rope, or whatever they are attached to.)
