Suicide? A little dramatic would'nt you say.

Sure is. Quite reminiscent of the group that called Nitrox "Devil Gas" when it first came on the scene. That one always tickled me. "Why don't you guys go find some witches to burn while you're at it."

Well, it has killed at least one person. One in a million chance though. But the cost of eliminating it as a potential problem is pretty much nothing. (Buy a different snap)

No. Dead is dead.

Raise your hand if you have ever been entangled by a clip to the point your felt your life was really endagered. I doubt you could even provide a single, verifiable case.

I think the chances of my getting trapped and killed by a brass spring clip are lower than me getting swallowed by a whale.

You would be wrong.

Andrea Doria - John Ormsby

lets put this into context, it wasn;t his clip that killed him

http://www.nitroxdiver.com/Library/NAUIdoria.html:
The 1980's claimed four lives. The most gruesome was in 1985 when a Florida diver, John Ormsby got clipped into a dangling cable and could not get free. At 210 fsw the narcosis coupled with panic sent him into a frenzy. His panic, coupled with a restrictive gear configuration resulted in his mangling and twisting himself around more cables and wires to the point where recovery divers needed to use bolt cutters to extricate his body.

I'd bet there are cases where the suicide snap have caused issues, perhaps not death in most cases, but certainly issues.

Why even worry about it when any potential issue is resolved by using a good snap?

It was the brass spring clip that killed him?

another example that it wasn;t the clip that killed him but his bad bouyancy

http://archive.capecodonline.com/special/andreadoria/andreadoria22.htm:
A mistake could send you plummeting like a stricken plane to the bottom of the wreck and the debris and thick layer of silt there. In 1985, John Ormsby misjudged his buoyancy and plunged nearly 70 feet, from the top to the bottom of the First Class Foyer. He then panicked and swam into electrical cables, becoming so entangled it took divers two days to cut him out. His body was brought to the surfacestill wrapped in cables.
