Aloha Samaka,
I loved your post thought about busting out my calculator then gave up. To answer your question my thoughts on professional diving and salary are so:
You do it for the love of the game! I left my high paying concierge job to become a dive professional because I love the ocean. I love helping people, seeing the excitement of a first time diver after they hit the water is indeed "priceless" and so is the feeling when your under the water and you realize this is what you do for a living as you see the turtle and hear the whales singing. It comes down to the best motto on my island of Kauai or the secret to happiness: You either make more money or you desire less. (That's how us Kauaians survive)
I desire less in terms of possessions but have gained so many amazing dive stories and adventures that when I am riding on the boat and the sun is setting in the background and my hair is all messy from diving I think why didn't I do this sooner.
Good luck with your dive/professional path!
