In the middle of this huge finacial crisis when the world seems to be coming to an end!

What do the brave or stupid do ?:dork2:

Plop down thousands of dollars for our family's first dive vacation. I really did it now, bought 3 airline tickets from California to Roatan and a one week package at Coco view. My wife, daughter and I will be staying in house # 9 from April 4th to the 11th. I still can't believe I did it. It's my 50th birthday present and what better way to celebrate than with my family in Roatan:D

So if any of you are going to be there that week, let me know and we can share this foolish journey. I am counting the days.

we did it, too! :shocked2:

booked for CocoView for Nov 2008.......... and we don't even know if there is a job for hubby as of 2009 - contract is up for rebid and will not be decided until end of Dec. So we said, what the heck, better go on a trip now as it may be our last dive trip for quite awhile! :shakehead: Crazy??? Yep, but..... I can justify it as "we're just helping the out economy". :D

I'm headed to Cocoview in early May with 6 friends as well. Got to go diving....

Sent our deposit about a week ago for CoCoview April 11 - 18th! Crazy? Sure - but hell, you only live once right? And my wife has always wanted to stay in an over water cabana...

Great responses everyone.

Steve, We would love to see you there and Byte Me, perhaps we will pass you at the airport.

Gosh, Now I have to sort out the baggage restrictions on Continental. Have you looked at their baggage explanations! It is sooooooo confusing. Gasp... Incredible

Be sure to check in at CoCo Chat

The place where the CoCoNuts hang out

I've been to CCV many times, it's a great place. You may be losing your mind, but what a way to do it. You'll lose most of it after 50 anyway, so why not have the best birthday ever. Kiss yourself for me and have fun.

Had a long chat with the Continental rep at DEMA and have many FF miles with them! On sports vacations they give you your dive gear to 50lbs as your first bag per person free, over 50lbs to 70lbs an extra 25 dollars. The second bag is 25 dollars up to 50lbs. So if you have two bags per person up to 50lbs each it will be an extra 25 dollars and that's each way! Make sure you let them know at the ticket counter it is a SCUBA vacation!

over 50lbs to 70lbs an extra 25 dollars.

a little trick I played to get around this. At least at our Airport after checking in at the counter they make you take your luggage over to xray and drop it there. At the ticket counter, they weighed our check in and it was over the 50lb mark... I carry along an empty backpack in the checked bag so I open the luggage and moved stuff to the backpack and say I will carry it on (since my wife and I did not have over our 1 carry on/1 personal item limit). After getting my tickets I take my bag over to xray and dump everything back in it before giving it to them and off we go... :)

We also booked another trip this year for November in Maui. I felt a bit guilty doing it given the current financial uncertainty and our 401k down 40% but what the heck...
