Well Gustav didn't uncover the reef at Pensacola Beach like it did in Navarre, I saw a lot of Mackeral shooting about on the way out to the reef but the reef was bare of any life and nothing really exposed except the tops of pilings. Here are some pics to commemorate this lack luster dive: :depressed:

There she is... darn. Looks like you had nice visibiliity. We've got a few more feet of sand to get out of there. Thanks for posting.

Sorry, it wasn't what I was hoping for. Navarre is 100% better than this and 200% better than it was before Gustav!

Man that sucks, I was hoping for my favorite little beach dive to be opened back up. Guess it's time to get the shovels out and dig it back up :D.

Where did you get the name Jacobi Reef from? I have never heard it called that before.

Ned Deloach's Diving guide to Underwater Florida refers to this reef as Jacobi Reef..... More specifically: "No. 4 - Jacobi Reef - Location: Just off Pensacola Beach near the main swimming beach on the Gulf Side west of the Pensacola Beach fishing pier. These are rows of concrete pilings in about 10 feet of water. A good snorkel dive. Shifting sands periodically cover and uncover the pilings." :)

Oh well, I guess that means it's back to Navarre. We'll have to do some more shark tagging. I didn't find any crawling under rocks last weekend :D

The mbt guys say that marine life is building up. We'll have our dive back soon.

I wonder if it references some other bunch of old pilings that have been covered up for some time. The P-cola reef is located east of the new pier.

I think it is a typo, I think it is the one and the same.

I think after looking at some pictures from the pensacola news journal that some more of the reef will be uncovered. check out this pic:
