That didn't take long to pick up! That''s why I said a visiting instructor. He told me his plan, hence OW2. As for whether the performance requirements were met, then you have to ask the instructor. I was guiding my own divers. However the conditions were good and the tide was slack.

It is not only about the performance requirements, also about safety.

For us: no open water course at Anemone Reef, a lovely divesite but not a very good place for open water courses.

When will I ever see one?
Arizona

You will probably see one at a time you will least expect it. Just don't give up hoping and keep looking up and around you every single dive you do.

:D

Why you use the safety issue? There is a perfectly good mooring line to hang on to do drills. I agree that I would not use this site, but the visiting instructor assessed the conditions and went ahead. He did what every good PADI Pro does every day, made a call on conditions to make sure his divers are safe and happy.

It has been 10 years since I did Anemone reef, (and Im getting old) but how long can you stay at 12 metres before the student gets bored swimming around the pinnacle?

All the skills are doable from a line, admittedly, although you would have to do hovering as opposed to fin pivoting, but it must have been as boring as all hell, unless .... they went deeper than 12m!

Let me rephrase that, it's specified how they need to obtain neutral buoyancy, as it states with LPI or oral but it doesn't specify anymore in Open Water dives how you meet the performance requirement as in 'fin pivot' or 'hover'.

So, we're all agreed, no problem with the site when done under benign conditions, even though Ao Nang has many sites to choose from. I don't think they got bored at 12m though, because there was a whale shark circling the reef, to get back to why I started this thread! I shall never forget seeing the whale shark going one way round and a leopard shark coming up the reef in the opposite direction at the same time.
