Rude or not doesn't matter in this case as while at Sea the Captains word is law! If you ever spent any time in the Navy you would understand this. If not you never will. Thats just the way it is whether you like it or not.

This thread has forced me to start considering more shore-based diving. BTW, doesn't the Navy allow bananas on-board?

Well, it is law within reason. In the banana case I am not sure that would hold up in court, should the captain commit assualt or damage property during his fit.
