Buying the best reg you can get (minus nonsense materials like Titanium) is always a good idea.

Check the classifieds. Buying a quality used reg is a good idea. I own - and dive - a lot of used regs.

Hell, I'll sell you the wife's Aqualung Legend setup with an aeris QD computer console. It's out of service (hasn't been in the water in probably 3 years), and the battery is most likely dead, but I imagine a shop would charge close to 1200 bucks.

It's only been used about... 10 times. How does $400 sound? Figure $100 more for service, and you're still coming in at WELL under retail.

wow a legend, I haven't done any research on them YET short of looking into a Kronos w/legend octo but no comp. another thought is a ScubaPro MK11/S555 w/R295 octo. finally almost any of the oceanic stuff EOS, Delta4, Alpha8 PX-3, GT3 roughly in that order.
which brings me to the comp that you are throwing in. If I had the $ I would do it in a heartbeat just for a backup.
If push comes to shove I may be back asking if you still have this deal and just rent for class

Was reading the dif between chrome/brass vs tite. Aside from $$$$ titanium won hands down.
But then a brass 1st stage has NEVER exploded.
Brass IS poisonous. So don't eat your 1st stage:rofl3:
If you are wondering about breathing though brass. The inside of your tank is far worse:11:
Finally brass is an OLD metal. So get with the times, get stinking rich so you can boast topside about your tite:rofl3:

Just keep your junk clean and it could out live you:14:

Where did you do your research? On a Dealer's website? :D

FWIW, I design Titanium parts on almost a daily basis. I understand its strengths and weaknesses, and, as far as I can tell, there is no practical benefit to a Titanium regulator (unless you're selling it, that is).

Personally, I breathe ScubaPro regs. That includes back gas, and deco/stage bottles. I've never had a failure. (MK25 first stages/S600 second stages).

I have a Salvo reg on my argon (drysuit inflation) bottle.

It's just sitting in a bin in my garage.

Ain't going anywhere unless I get off my butt and actively try to sell it. This is the only time I've offered it up.

The Salvo SRX is only $180, and you can get a first stage for it from 123scuba for $60. Self serviceable, so you save $$$ in the long run.

Good call.

I for one would love to have one. . It would mean I was rich:D
It's stronger
laughs at saltwater
and is not poison

BUT AGAIN
a chrome/brass 1st has NEVER exploded
rinse your 1st and it will live longer than you
Just don't eat it and you'll be fine

I'm really not sure why anybody would want to eat their first stage (second stage, maybe, if they got really hungry at 80ft, lol:popcorn:), and based on the 30 year old scubapro mk7 I've got in my basement, you might need some of those knives they advertise on infomercials in the middle of the night that can cut through boots just to get the thing in manageable pieces.

The whole idea of it makes me think of Cookie Monster doing an OW class:
Instructor: And this is how you put the regulator onto the--
Cookie Monster: MMMMM... Metaaaal
Instructor: noo.... *looking at twisted pieces of metal falling from Cookie Monster's mouth*

that was dumb, I know, but I couldn't resist :dork2:

Cookie Monster: MMMMM... Metaaaal

ok maybe tite has a use:rofl3:
I used to have a titanium crow bar (sold it to buy gear)
