Hey Ber, keep a lookout for a bunch in old double hose regs. A bunch of us (several off this board) are going to be in the area at a vintage dive meet. Current plans are to be at Alexander on the 27th and Ginnie on the 28th so our paths may well cross. Love to put a face with a name.

Cool! I'll keep an eye out! I'm pretty easy to pick out of a crowd with the rabbit ears...seriously. Just follow the pointing and laughing :D

So what I'm gathering is Crystal River, Ginnie, Devils Den and Manatee Springs are safe bets correct?
Ber :lilbunny:

Too bad it is all weekday stuff, as that almost certainly counts me out.

Hey there!

This fuzzy bunny is making her annual pilgrimage to the High Springs area for winter check-out dives :D I've got 4 students and a whole herd of staff plus a couple extra divers coming this year. The tentative schedule is:
March 24: Troy Spring
March 25: Crystal River
March 26: Alexander Springs
March 27: Devils Den
March 28: Ginnie Springs (including a night dive)

Back-up sites are Manatee Springs and Orange Sink at Peacock Springs.

Those are all week-day dives and we usually get to the sites right before the crack of dawn (to some) or at opening time (to others). I'll probably be pretty busy with a group this size since most have never been to the springs but I always look forward to a chance to meet fellow Scubaboarders! Come on out if you get a chance!
Ber :lilbunny:

Too bad you won't be at Vortex. I will be going down to assist some instructors at my LDS with some OW checkout dives the 24- 26th. Oh well, maybe next time.

What? :11: You're not doing Blue Springs:confused:. I live close and could join you there...Although Devil's Den is a poss. as is Ginnie...;)

You could always join us at Ginnie, skip out of work on a Friday :D We have to do weekdays since it's a 13 hour drive to High Springs.

Vortex is too far from High Springs. I have friends who have a house that is one mile from Ginnie Springs and they let me house my group with them for grocery money. I'm taking 14 people down this time, hopefully that doesn't test their hospitality :11:

Never been to Blue Springs. The one near Devils Den right? I know there are a couple of places called Blue Springs.
This one doesn't allow diving.
This one is 2 hours and 40 minutes from the house. :11:
This one says cavern and cave diving only so wouldn't work for open water check outs. None of my people are cavern or cave diving certified anyway.

not near DD.:shakehead: Blue Springs in Orange City, Fl.
I think your students may find it a better dive than Alex. I Don't Want To Start an A vs B Thread :no... I'm just trying to offer a little advise :coffee: (yea I know the stinky thing too about advise...):rofl3::rofl3:

Alex. Spr. is an easy dive for students and beginners. (bottom :mooner: = 22ft) When silted up :no it quickly clears:eyebrow:. There is also a lot of fresh water wildlife to be seen (good idea to suggest some students buy disposable h2o cameras @ walmart).

Blue Springs in Orange City has a little hike (along board walkway) to the water and a hike upstream to the spring head (in water). the trip is well worth it. lots of shallow (<15 ft) space for snorkeling and a log @ 12-15 ft for safety stops. the spring has a mod for ow dives @ 60 (warning sign there). Most days divers can watch the squirrels run through the trees from 40 ft below the surface.
Following the dive there is an opp. for a down stream snorkel/shallow dive (<8 ft) down to the swimming area where divers may exit closer to their cars. Blue will probably be a little tight for 14 + divers.

Both sites (like most dive sites) have + & -, if you are diving first thing @ Alex. I can poss. meet you in the morning, but have to be at work later that day (1 hr drive for me). let me know if I can help you in any way.

Are you aware that Blue Grotto is only 2 miles (or less) from Devil's Den?
