Hello again, to answered a question. I am from Cozumel residing in CT . I travel twice a month to Cozumel to see my family and to bring people to dive I had recommended thousands people what to do, where to go & how to do it. I had experienced all types of traveling to the Island by Plane, cruise, sailing, including driving to Cozumel all over form CT. and I never hear any one expressed different . I had been hire as a private tour guide sometimes in cruises, or just for the week.

As you all can see easyrider003 is a novice diver that has never been in Cozumel.
I will suggest to you easyrider003 to book your one day dive trip trough your cruise ship
And experience the beautiful reefs gather as much information as you can. Because I guarantee you that you’ll be back and this time to stay longer.

Cozumel have a verity of things to do that in one day no one can’t experienced check well how long the ship staying at the Island some cruises arrive a 7am and leave at 7pm some they stay longer. Enjoy the cruise, book the dive trip from your cruise is the wise way to enjoy your experience in Cozumel.

Don’t for get to come back to the forum and share your experience and some photos.

Thank you

I was just in Cozumel November 13th on the Royal Caribbean ship the Jewel of the Sea's. I arranged for a dive with Scuba with Alison and they were able to accomodate me no problem. I simply took a cab to the Caleta marina from the International Pier they waited for us to arrive and we then decided on a dive site with The Santa Rosa Wall as our deep dive (fantastic!) we did our suface interval as we traveled to paradise reef for our second dive (lot's of critters to see!) After returning to the marina we simply caught a cab with plenty of time to spare we stopped for lunch and a couple of cervesa's at Margaritaville and then caught another cab back to the ship!

Only encountered one problem.... I did not want to get back on the ship! Next trip for me will be a week of diving in Cozumel!

Well you are half way to a good time, but even a 2 week stay leaves you wanting to stay longer. Santa Rosa wall used to be my fav before Wilma, but now the dives at any of the Palancar sites easily make my first dive of the day more enjoyable, even though I still like Santa Rosa. Just wait until you do Columbia Shallows which basically is as it was pre hurricane Wilma. Welcome to the Cozaholic club.

easyerider003, One dive in Cozumel – Will make you realized that a cruise vacation was a mistake if you like to dive of course! However wile you are in Progresso you can go diving with the wale sharks in Holbox Island is north of Yucatan. Is beautiful. I am not sure if the Cruise offer a short excursion to Holbox . but you can ask the local’s how to get there is about 7 or 10 miles prx. I hope you have a great time in MY HOME TOWN (Cozumel)
Have fun! And when you comeback share some photos. I missed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Holbox is about 5 or 6 hours drive from Progresso.

Thanks cicopo! Santa Rosa Wall last month was my first ocean dive, all my previous diving has been in Lake Superior or flooded mine pits in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I loved Cozumel! I also dove the Dos Ojos cenote near Tulum which was pretty cool.

No one ever scuba dives in Cozumel, and those who have dared to dive in Cozumel won't come back. Sorry, couldn't resist...just a funny question to be asking on a forum dedicated to diving in Cozumel.

Cozumel is world known as one of the top dive destinations, so if you have the opportunity to dive here, I definitely would take advantage of it. Progresso on the other hand...is not at all a dive destination, and I would be surprised if diving is even offered there.

As others have said, your ship arrival time, departure time and time of year even will be a big factor in how many dive operations you have to choose from. Once you get your cruise booked, let us know your ship arrival and departure time, and we can steer you in the right direction...although considering it willbe your first dive in Cozumel ever...you'll be WOWED regardless of who you end up diving with.

Since you said, "Progresso on the other hand...is not at all a dive destination, and I would be surprised if diving is even offered there." I guess I'll have to book with you again.

I'll be on another cruise in March and we are going to Progresso and Cozumel. I had a great time with the gang and Pedro the last cruise I went on, so I see I'm going to do it again. Can I request Pedro again?

To the OP, Cozumel and BlueXTSea are top notch. I'm definitely going to book again with Christi as the last time, she had a 9AM time set and I was docked at 8AM and made it to the dock with a lot of time left. (I just wish I could've done the night dive that night. :|)

Livewire, where do you usually stay while in Coz?

Cozumel is one of the best diving destinations in the world. Pity you'll only be there for one day! I've been probably 6 times?, usually week long trips and have always enjoyed it. Its absolutely worth diving if you've never been. Search around ScubaBoard and you'll find plenty of trip reports and pictures of things you might see. Enjoy!

The first few trips I was staying at a place which was formerly known as the Fiesta Inn, now called Hotel Cozumel. I've also stayed at Fiesta Americana, and my new favorite is the Iberostar. I really REALLY think Iberostar is one of the best for the active diver because of its proximity to the reefs. The boat trips are literally 5-10 minutes, with the exception of Maracaibo which might be around 20. The on site shop (Dressel Divers) is very friendly, safe, convenient, and very reasonably priced, BUT they can become crowded when large groups are there. Their boats are larger so individualized attention can be diminished, and diving with them can take some time since you have to get a lot of people on and off the boat. On this last trip we used Dressel for half the trip and Dive with Martin the second half, and Dive with Martin was the very clear winner for us.

As far as accommodations at Iberostar, the resort was great, the food fantastic, and for the first trip ever in Cozumel I never felt the need to leave the resort to head to town for change of scenery or food. The only complaint I had was that the beds there are a bit too firm, but then again, they were firm at Fiesta Americana, and at some other place I stayed there, too, so I'm beginning to think it's the norm. I don't remember them being this firm at Hotel Cozumel, but I was younger and less picky then. :) Others complained about insect bites but we controlled that easily with bug spray. Others complain about the rocky beach, but entry/exit is easy from the dock via ladder. Still others complain about no beach diving or good resort-front snorkeling, but this tends to be the norm around Cozumel, so nothing new here. I still found plenty of interesting things in front of the resort just snorkeling... eel, grunts, big barracuda, fireworms, lobster, juvenile angels, and juvenile everything else.

Have plenty o pics from the most recent trip I'd be happy to post if you like. Just say the word! :)
