Mmmmmm Stone crab claws...

I've never dove for claws...
how productive are the 'rocks?
Assuming one's skills are not the issue, could we expect to 'limit' (1 gallon)?
Also, do they all get hammered in the first few days (like lobsters and scallops) or are there enough left for a few weekends of harvesting?

Diddo on what Nereus said. I wish I could get off work Monday to join you guys. I'm going to try to get over there maybe on the 20 or 21 if anyone would like to meet up. You all have a great time, though:)

Honestly, I do not know how badly they get "hammered". This will be my first time crabbing at Anna Maria. I do know there are loads out there. Certainly enough for each to have dinner :)

We haven't been on our cruise yet. We leave on the 28th, I think. Can't wait. Maybe they will have a halloween costume party:) I'll let you know all about it when we come back.
As for the Crabbing, I'll start a thread. I really want to grab me some dinner. Cheers!

We can compare notes - I'll be on a live-aboard trip about that time:)

About how many claws make up a 'gallon'?
I figure it would be difficult to figure out a gallon of displacement while still underwater.

Also - are there other decent areas for collecting Stone Crab (yeah, I know - every fisherman loves to tell where their hotspot is)? Even if not a 'normal' dive site, maybe certain shore areas or pilings?

Right now, they seem to be everywhere. There's the Skyway - careful though lots of entanglement hazards there. Any place where there are pilings would be good.
