Yes — Halcyon makes very nice carbon fiber backplates.
Those are designed in the USA.
Do they make their own carbon fibers, or just the design?

China is the workshop of the world, their factories and massively-capable supply chains make just about everything: both low-end and high-end. Their high-end can far exceed the speed and quality of production of anything produced in the dying West. Better to differentiate on price / reputation / quality control rather than origin of manufacture

Your point is well made and taken. What I should have said is, has anyone had experience and/or issues with the non branded carbon fiber backplates that I'm seeing for ~ $150 on Piranha and on Ebay? I've never actually seen a carbon fiber bp and only read about potential for one to crack but this was always someone saying you have to get an aluminum or stainless bp.
I live in Colorado and only dive in the Caribbean or Hawaii on week long + trips so I'm concerned about being on a trip and cracking a cf plate on the first day.
Thoughts?

I'd be interested to see how they fare. I've had a couple of ABS plates from Dive Rite and they both eventually fractured down one of the folds (or what would be a fold if it was steel/al). I guess that's where the plate flexes and cracks formed. I wonder if laminate is more forgiving. I vaguely remember the bolt holes ended up elliptical with wear from the bolts too.
I didn't see any at that price
