Seriously guys, I am confused now. The reason I ask is because I have few new in the box mk25/s600 that are old stock but I can't tell what ventage they are.
I wasn’t joking about the knobs - only attached a bad joke at the end (but they’re cross compatible I believe, so the definitive answer is the balanced chamber itself, which is what Geo was talking about)
If there’re NIB then the knob should be enough to tell (no Frankenstein stuff)

It would be a marvelous “archeological” discovery if you have ancient 1st gen ones; would love to see how the LP seats is doing after all these years (I’m actually doing this experiment at the moment, but I’m only 6mo in)

Quick way to tell, newer ones have a shiny trim ring at the base of the knob

The guide:
Greetings,

I have received so much awesome support and info from the folks on this forum, I felt I should at least attempt to capture and give some of it back :)

This post is about converting a Gen 1, 2, or 3 S600 into an S600 with the "guts" of a 4th Gen S600. This includes the metal air barrel and may include the adjustment knob assembly.

S600 Generations:

The conversion consists of this:

Now, if you have a Gen 1 S600, like with this knob:

Then, you will also need to order this Knob Assembly [for Gen 2 and Gen 3]:

The conversion is pretty easy and straightforward. You perform a normal annual service, but reassemble with the new parts. Personally, I retained the Gen 2 knob and faceplate...I did not opt to spend the money on those Gen 4 parts. I just wanted the metal air barrel for less chance of cracking on the barrel, less chance of icing up, and less dry mouth. The weight difference is not really something that I noticed unless I was looking for a difference. It is slight.

Any other questions, just post em up. Now, there is a fantastic write up by @DA Aquamaster on the history of the S600 here: Comparing S600 versions

This 4th gen right?
(Sorry Boltsnap, this only gets madder)
I’ve lost track of the “generations” it may go to the second or third generation… it is the update and or conversion type that you can buy to update the older pneumatic type on 600’s, G250 HP and to make a 555 into a 600

Can you tell what vintage these S600 second stages are by the difference in their respective purge button cover?

1.

2.

  1. This should be between September 2009 and now. To pinpoint it more you'd have to open and check for a sleeve around the barrel. All other revisions concerned uninteresting stuff like hoses or mouthpiece.
  2. This should be between July 2004 and September 2009. It be from as early as November 2002, but you'd have to inspect the knob a little closer.
All that being said, the serial number should give away the year of manufacture.

What digits on the first stage indicate the year of manufacturing? The top left first two digits?

Yes exactly. The first two digits indicate the year of manufacture for ScubaPro regulators. This first stage is from 2006.

The serial number is also present on the second stage. On some ScubaPro models its around the exhaust, on others you have to remove the mouthpiece.

I'm fairly certain that the above isn't universally true, very old ScubaPro regulators will differ. I can't tell you when they started numbering them like this.

That's a relatively recent thing having the first two digits indicate the year. I have two Mk20 (now Mk25) that start with 70 and 81.. both "dates" are way to early, i believe the Mk20 first came out in '96 or '97.
