I find breathing something I’ve really enjoyed for many years, don’t really like dive boats because they don’t run on my schedule so I’ve saved more than enough to buy the TFX second, yes it cost to damn mh but it only took one dive for the cost to seem less significant.
We all find ways to come to terms with our own compulsions :narcosis:
 
Guys, what do you like so much about the MK25 anyway? :)
It has been around forever (especially if you count in the Mk20 as well, since that's just a Mk25 minus the adjustment screw).
It's very reliable, breathes great and is easy to service and tune. Also allows great hose routing with it's turret and shape.

Guess that's it for me.
 
I also count MK5 and MK10 before the MK20. Truly amazing and simple pieces of gear.
MK25 just feels a little bit excessive for me. Big, heavy (not the titanium ones), and I just don't like piston regs for travel. Otherwise brilliant. May need to source one and dive it for a while to truly appreciate over the MK10.
 
Try it, it's great. You can get used Mk20s for around 40€ on the second hand market.. the upgrade kit 41.300.020 transforms it into a Mk25 if you want to.
And if it still has the old DIN knob retainer and brass piston: You can get the current ones (10.400.125 and 10.600.155P) for free if your dealer plays along, Scubapro still honors their recall from 2006.
 
I started my DIY service learning on an mk10, and I like them more conceptually (size factor and sealing capability)

But the mk20/25 have proven easier to restore the knife edge (blunt vs sharp), the HP oring is much easier to take out vs the captive in mk10/5; and the IP adjustment on the fly (mk25) can come in handy when out in the field to save a dive

Also, looking ahead, the HP seats don’t wear as much due to the blunt piston edge

The con is ofcourse the ambient chamber wear (unsealed), but with a little luck and the advantage of Ti, even if that’s the case I don’t have to worry about corrosion when restoring it

For travel I actually prefer unsealed pistons (esp the Ti) as they are really forgiving with water intrusion (again a la problem solving without a workbench)

For cold diving (which I rarely do) I’ll take a diaphragm reg any day (mk19) over a piston
 
s600 1st gen (like the g500 and g250HP; you can tell by the knob
How so? What is different with the knob on the s600 1st gen?

The G500, G250HP and early S600 had the pneumatic seat saver. Ingenious, but didn't get traction. It needed a special tool to adjust it under pressure.

Seriously guys, I am confused now. The reason I ask is because I have few new in the box mk25/s600 that are old stock but I can't tell what ventage they are.
