Catastrophic failures? Sure.there aren't all that many regulator failures due to water getting into the first stage as a result.
I work on plenty of regs that have been ruined by water intrusion, though. It's not an instantaneous thing, it's the chrome stripping away over time. Plenty of people drop regs off at the shop saying there's an issue with the second stage free flowing or whatever, but the real issue is massive IP creep from corrosion eating away the chrome and ruining the sealing surface.
