Ok.. so a) I'm slightly annoyed that after buying the TernTX they now annoucned the PeregrineTX. That said, I do love the Tern & AI (coming from a Peregrine). I do miss the larger screen though.

Now, my question.. is it just me or is the larger of the two straps included by Shearwater with the Tern/TernTX still REALLY short???

I don't have thick wrists by any means, but the larger strap doesn't fit over my 3.5mm wetsuit with 1.5mm tropic gloves (even sliding up my arm a bit to avoid the gloves). It will just barely notch over the gloves themselves without the wetsuit.

I guess I could buy the elastic remora band with the buckle... but was just curious if anyone else thought this was off? My Peregrine had such a large strap it easily folded over onto itself with the excess. I suppose "watch style" means they want it to be more streamline... but man, its tough to use with a moderately thin wetsuit (even though a waterproof 3.5 with zip cuffs is a bit thcik for an average 3mil).

Dry (bare skin) it still jsut fits me with only a few extra ring holes... surprising given that I'm not a big guy.

Anyway, minor gripe. I also can't seem to convince myself that my compass is calibrated correctly. I've recalibrated a few times and it always seems to be a good bit off of my analog compass in my backup console. /shrug. Maybe its only when I'm on the "big metal boat"... digital vs non-digital.

my wrists are about 7” - with a 5mm wetsuit on I think I have 2 slots left in the longer tern strap. I expected it to be longer.

@DagrScuba I'm neither big nor a guy and I was also surprised at how short the large strap is. There isn't a lot of room on my forearm with a thick wetsuit or drysuit, so it would definitely be tight on a bigger person.

My LDS owner said the Tern was marketed for females with the low profile, smaller face, and short straps, but I don't know for sure.

The Remora or stretchy strap would work.
I got a 3D printed Teric/Tern bungee mount kit, just due to personal preference for bungee straps, which are quick and easy to put on.

I ended up getting one of their remora webbing straps. It's very easy to take on and off.. my only complaint is that there is a lot of excess strap... Kind of the opposite problem :)

I picked up both a bungee mount for the Tern (from Dive Right In) and the Remora webbing strap. Having tried both out, I think I will go with the webbing strap: when not diving, it'll be easy (without tools) to switch to the original strap when not diving, less conspicuous when worn in town. The buckle, while plastic, seems sturdy enough, I guess...

There is a lot of excess when worn over a wetsuit, but I've managed by going outward first and then tucking it back inwards into the strap keepers (second one positioned right next to the buckle). It does leave an open loop in the strap, but it isn't too bad, and is mostly flattened towards the wrist.

Pretty much what I'm doing.

Btw, the blue shearwater NATO style bands for the teric also fit the tern perfectly. I'm not sure they are still making them... They come in two sizes. I tried the long one but it is way too long for normal wetsuit wear. With the webbing strap I just don't need it.

I may try to pick up the shorter version if I can find it.

Another option I have not tried is the band extender they sell for the teric. Should work fine as well since it just attaches to the band. That seems a little awkward but has the advantage that you can just take off the extension and wear regularly post dive.

Just make a longer option remora strap shearwater!! :). It's seriously goofy. The band for the peregrine is perfect... Different purpose I realize but it adapts to a lot of different sizes.

Any 22m(?) NATO / ZULU style stray should work, I'm guessing? The Remora webbing strap was only $20, though, so can't complain there! ;)

Yeah, any 22mm should work. Btw, I didn't realize but the new terics are apparently all shipping with the same remora bands now as well.. and lots of people complaining about the size lol.

I got the remora webbing strap and as you said, it does have a lot of excess. I tried to follow the method you described, not sure if I did this right? I have a tiny wrist @ 6.5in (7in with wetsuit)

I actually started tucking the excess back through the last band loop again. It's right but does work. I haven't tried using the strap buckle like that...
